sorry, im trying to improve spelling. Yes Poles and French etc did fight with the british but not with the SAS. In the desert (Africa) the SAS did use locals that knew the surroundings and served as linguists.

the SAS- special air service were formed during ww2 in africa. they specialised in gurrilla warfare and special operations and destoyed many german airfeilds. They still operate today and are dcosidered by many the most elite fighting force in the world.

But okay the SAS are not the only unit in the British army, they are just a small part of it.

yes but the sas could be the british force focused on in the game, especialy in africa. I would like to see desert rats, scotish highladers (the black watch) and rolyal marines too.

Cant forget the LRDG - the Long Range Desert Group.
I think small specialist commando units would be a good focus for the British. For each nation to be represented well in a game they would have to each have their own little 'niche' specialism to avoid clone armies that play exactly the same as each other. The Soviets would have manpower - cheap cannon-fodder conscripts urged on by Political Officers. The British, on the other hand, should focus more on smaller scale elite units. The British Army is, after all, reknown in WWII for its commando units like the SAS and LRDG. As such it seems that this would be a perfect 'theme' to follow.

So the British would have a few elite units, if compared to 40k I would say something similar to the Biel Tan Swordwind army, very veeeeeeeery specialized, so certain units for certain targets.

What about the "Red Devils" and British Commandos "N2 Commando".

i would see them as fast striking assault/ saboutage troops. They would have jeeps and bike and would specialise in assault desert hangars and fortifications- thats what he real sas did.

The only issue I have is at this point we will not be doing vehicles other than the "Walking Tanks" so fast assault troops would have to have rules that would represent the fast assault.

Maybe they could set up closer to enemies and after everyone else is deployed to represent a quick infiltration?

I think special setup would be one option. The other is a special orders card to deploy when/where needed later in the game. Almost a "lucky us" or "you guys showed up just in time" card.
