I'm debating about getting a few minis for this and giving it a try. Rob, I know you play it occasionally and would like your thoughts about how to go about starting. Like, which are the better teams to start with, not necessarily the best teams, just a couple of the 'lesser' special rules teams. So its easier to play right from the get-go. The only thing I've really heard about the game is that its fun and that the elves are a bit better than all the rest(generally). Does GW even still make the game or will I have to get this via ebay or some such? Easy to buy minis? If anybody has an opinion I'd love to hear them.

Bloodbowl is pretty fun and doesn't take a long time to play.
Yeah GW still makes the game, and if you don't have access to the box set you'll need to buy one for the board and templates probably. You can download the rulebook from the specialist games section of the games workshop website for free, as it's now a living rulebook.
Again it's easy to buy minis as I believe most of the teams are still in production by GW, though they're a tad on the expensive side for what you get.

Low on special rules (but not necessarily beginner teams): Orcs, Humans, High Elves, Chaos
Elves are better in a one-off scenario just because they have a better time winning games. Bashier teams are better in the long-run as once they get some skills, they really can put a hurt on finesse teams and still score.

I'd suggest you go with Orc's as one of the teams. Actually if you buy a box set you'll have Orc's and Humans.
I've found the game is really well suited to orcs. Elves are good, but less of what I would call a "starter" type team, they take some finesse to play well in my opinion. Humans are good all-rounders.
If you look around the net there is a java based version of the game that uses the latest living rule book rules and could give you a good idea of team str's/weakness's

Love the game even though I suck at it I still have a bast. Humans are my first pick as that is the team I have played for a while (2nd ed). I love that the human team can be a fast team vs slow teams, smash weaker teams, and have great skills to keep you competive. Plus I dig having the Ogre on the pitch.
If you want a more bash and smash team Orcs are the other team to get.
For just pure sick looking miniatures check out the Rolljordan teams. There Frogs are the best team on the market.

I know they sold out but are going to be making more. We should have some at Gen Con as Chris at RJ is a friend of mine. They do hands down the best looking teams for BB. Down load the rules and look up the BB Playbooks to get an idea of which team you want to play.

It sure does, and you can play it in turn-based mode! Joy! Now if only they would make a turn-based Necromunda or Mordheim...

Anyone get the new Blood Bowl PC game? It is available for download but I don't think my 150mb limit here is going to cut it and I don't think it is out as a hard copy yet. Is it any good? It's been out for a few days and I haven't been able to find any reviews or any mention of it any were aside from the official website. PS Sorry about the double post

The back and forth would work well for games like hockey, american football, soccer, rugby, etc. "Alternative Entertainment - Sports Edition"?

I think that the AE system would rock a Yank Football styled game. But than again the way the system is set you could do just about any style of game with it as we have found out working on Bounty. It just a matter of the time to be able to do it. I have a ton of different ideas and I know Matt and CL cring when I tell them I have one.
