In OTW 11, the weakness of the tank detachment is that "all its eggs are in one basket", so to speak - once the tank is gone, the detachment doesn't have much else to rely on. I would think that that would depend on the supporting cast, and indeed the player!

If it's anything like how the vehicles currently are, you'll start with a small vehicle and then have to sacrifice more slots to work your way up the vehicles. Therefore to get the big boys, you're probably not going to have a lot to play with in terms of troops etc.
Unless of course it's changed for the Tank detachment.

Unless of course it's changed for the Tank detachment. Nope, it works the same way.

What then would you say (other than Artillery Strikes!) the main drawback of Tanks in the game are? They're reasonably slow. As Cionelle said, it's also pretty much all you've got. Sure you get a few units to support the tank, but not nearly enough (or with enough skill) to do much damage. We've also built in quite a few drawbacks for tanks since they're SO powerful, which will give players facing them some balancing advantages.

You want to play tanks as one of a few detachments per side so you can throw some tank loving and still have troops to get your objectives.

Out of curiosity, will Russian troops be allowed to ride on their tanks (also providing some form of ablative armour in the process)?
