From what I've read about the Volkssturm (in the real world setting) it would seem that they were a poorly equipped, un-uniformed militia force. From the pictures I've seen posted on here it wouls seem that people tend to use the German Trooper minis. I've some Musketeer inter-war minitures that I'm thinking of using to represent Volkssturm. They're armed with rifles (though one has a sort of machine gun) and have a mixture of civilian clothes, caps and tin helmets. Does anyone else feel they would better represent 'last ditch' defenders? Do the AE-WWII rules represent them as something else entirely?

We will have Darkson Volkssturm in 2010. The sculptor that did the American GI's and the new Soviet Conscripts will be doing single part Volkssturm as well.

The Volksturm in the rulebook are better thought of as 'Volksgrenadier' - who were poorly trained but relatively well-equipped troops. Volksturm, on the other hand, are hastily outfitted civilians whose uniform consists of an armband and who were fitted out with any gun that could be found (sometimes so obscure they couldn't find any more ammo for them except what they got with the rifle). The Europe book will address this error. We're working on rules for units who have 'random' equipment which i hope will help lend a real adhoc feel to poorly equipped troops like Volksturm or Resistance fighters.

So would people generally feel it was ok to use my 'resistance' style models as Volkstrum until the rules are changed/altered?

Indeed, it's a pretty laid-back crowd around here. The Darkson figs are so good you will want to use them, but for the stuff they haven't put out yet, just go with what you have.
I'd love to do brownshirts with that armband, but I don't think my detail painting would be up to snuff...

One Piece Volkstrum will be really sweet - even if not much use with my Waffen SS force.

What you don't need minis for your SS conscripts?

Still waiting on the book to arrive... What is the state is Germany itself in when the game is set? Have the allies started bombing Berlin/Dussledorf/etc? Has Hitler gone into 'retreat'?
I'm thinking of basing my force around a bombed out Berlin... Volkssturm, veteran Waffen-SS, snipers, SS officers, lots of Pazerfausts, etc. ;D

I won't go into too much detail (mostly because it is early and I've been up all night), but here's one important difference with AE-WWII - the D-Day landings were a failure. Germany is in a much better state (more or less) than it was in reality.

Germany is in a much better state (more or less) than it was in reality. Better is a relative term, as I read the fluff the bombing offensives of the US Army Air and the British have still pounded Germany something hard, meaning the Volkssturm will still be armed with hand-me-downs and obscure weapons as first priority for arms will still go to the Waffen SS and the Wehrmacht. Just because D-Day failed doesnt mean German industry hasnt been reduced to cottage output. Im more interested in the status of Polesti - thats far far more critical in the long run to the status of the German war machine. I know that Rommel is in the Middle East with the goal of capturing the oil fields but I believe its still up in the air.

Was this the same thing as the Wehrwolf resistance movement? Attachments:

No, Werwolf was a separate thing. It grew out of an SS armed resistance effort in the late stage of the war that had limited success. The 'Wolf's Angle' symbol was used by the Nazi resistance movement during Allied occupation of Germany and because of this continues to be an outlawed symbol in modern Germany.

So needless to say you wont be seeing it in any AE books.
