The ak-47 was NOT used in ww2. The germans possessed the only 2 assault rifles ever used in combat in ww2, which was the STG-44 series (including the Mkb.42 and so on) and the Volksgewehr.

actualy the ak-47 was designed as a sub-machine gun. Kalashnikov had seen the american thompson sub machine gun and thought the russians needed something like thay. He got his people to buid prototypes whitch weree used by some russian troops is stalingrad.

It is true Kalashnikov and his partner Zhenya Kravchenko created a sub-machinegun (popularised with it's use in the post-war period), which was indeed used in conflict, it's important to note that it was NOT the ak-47 assault rifle, and shared very little internal construction. The only reason it is still brought up with the ak-47 is because they shared the same mark (AK for automat kalashnikov).

okay but that smg was the makings of the ak-47 because of its simplicity and reliablity.
