or more importantly, when are we going to see? currently flicking through osprey's 'the german army 1939-45' (i work in a bookshop) and drooling over the idea of a combination of a panzergrenadier sniper with the german army of your setting (woo combat drugs)!

We'll see them eventually I dont doubt (though i hope Panzergrenadiers also turn up!) but at moment it will be a while, probably as we wait for more Yanks to show up (late as always!).
That and some SonderKommandos....

That and some SonderKommandos.... Err... I take it you don't actually mean Sonderkommandos in the context that I know them, as in the Death Camp workers. I assume you mean Einsatzgruppen Sonderkommandos (sp?), the specialist squads that went around occupied Europe carrying out Reinhard Heydrich's orders. Although theoretically Fallschirmjaegers (can't do an umlaut) could be classed as a Sonderkommando belonging to the Luftwaffe, as could other specialist formations. Tim

I remember seeing a piece of pulp artwork (I posted it here ages ago) with a female German sniper, perhaps we could call them Valkyres (sp?), German girls armed with sniperrifles to hunt down important enemy figures and stuff like that! Oh yeah...moment of modness...shouldnt we move this thread to the troop ideas section?

Valkyries is a cool idea, in Nordic mythology they would often support their chosen heroes in battle, though not directly participating. Good for the role of sniper support.

Yup. I posted a piece of art with a female sniper- the female regiment were called Valkyries. Tim, I was referring to special forces not the Einsatzgruppen or camp workers. I dont think we'll see them utside of the backround.

Probably best to simply use another German term 'Jagdkommando' to avoid the less pleasant sorts of unit that were classified as Sonderkommando.

How will the German snipers be more dangerous? Perhaps make them an individual unit instead of a team unit or even squad. Perhaps some upgrades and heavy training, but not as extreme as the other German soldiers. The Valkyrie would be training to be very fast, imagine Parkour like actions when she runs/climbs on those buildings. Perhaps an added martial arts skills when she does end up in close combat.

I dunno, outside of the Russians, there really weren't any female combatants during the war (aside from insurgent/partisan forces). Especially with the Nazis, where they considered the only role a woman should serve is breeding, it seems downright wrong to have female combat units. Even the female members of the Werwolf were recruited as spies, not fighters. Certainly the odd character/hero model should be female, as there were a few exceptions (Hanna Reitsch was even allowed to fly a Komet), but as a broader policy, it seems like straying too much into 'Luft 46' and other anime treatments of the war.

The idea of a female fighter (especially a nazi) is not that uncommon in sci fi. Heck in this game the US troops will have white and black soldiers fighting together...in real WWII things were a bit more segregated, especially in the airforce in which the US had different units of African American pilots.
So the idea of having some cool female German Valkyre unit is just...well "rule of cool" I guess! ;D

The Germans did employ women at some point, at least when Berlin came under attack the women of the city was conscripted like everyone else. With the war continueing into 1946 it would make sense that the German lack of manpower have led to the introduction of female soldiers, at least for a limited number of positions, like pilots and snipers.

I would love to see an elite women unit, very rare and very experimental (psychologically and tactical wise, not really in technology)
Besides with a longer and bigger war I dont think the Germans would really have that problem of running out of men, they have large numbers of superior soldiers and with the war not really close to an end this madness keeps on going!

Well first snipers should justhave more techno kit for the Germans while the Soviets are cheaper and infiltrate better. Women being used is interesting but I dont think they'd be common, probabkly as a bodyguard to a female German character or as a specialist type of unnamed character.

on the whole pulp female germans - what about the lass who rides the broomstick in the german airforce in top ten... (erm... the prequel one. with the blue front cover... ack memory dying) - that was something of an alternate events look at the aftermath of world war two, but based on superheroes...
well, science heroes if i recall correctly...
