It was changed to 18" in the Bounty rules and I think that is more than fine for AE-WWII as well

The 'nerf' for Hidden Deployment will be the Secret Police rules. I really wouldn't want to see anything further done to them.

The 'nerf' for Hidden Deployment will be the Secret Police rules. Are these going to be units people already use? Because if not it does seem as if the "answer" is to get people to buy units specifically to deal with something that is much more easily solved by increasing the range of Hidden Deployment. That issue came up specifically in the Occult Expansion playtesting and I was actually surprised that it didn't get changed then. Secret Police sounds like a fun idea but it should be there on its own merit not as a patch for Hidden Deployment.

The issue is, alot of us don't see a need to 'patch' HD. A Secret Police model is something like a Gestapo or SMERSH agent who will allow a player who doesn't have the tactical discipline or versatility to deal with HD models to have a 'qucik fix' for the problem, but at the cost of being required to take said specialist model.
HD models often represent a major gamble for players who use them. For every horror story involving 'Hellboy', I'm sure you'll find plenty of players whining about their werewolves getting mowed down before doing anything spectacular.

You can't say you don't see the need for a fix while you're discussing your fix to the issue :-) HD models often represent a major gamble for players who use them. That wasn't our experience with Werewolves.

The Secret Police rule is a way to placate the folks who can't cope with Hidden Deployment, so it's fair to say it's not a 'fix' as there's nothing to fix. It's a way for players who can't handle a werewolf or ninja in their lap to avoid that problem at the expense of a slot from their detachment.
Hidden Deployment models are already out on their lonesome where a savy opponent can direct a hideous amount of attention to them well before he has to worry about the rest of the enemy models. They don't need any further handicaps.

HD is a gamble as it is a hit to the deploying players Drive but it couldn't a quick payout if done right. Matthew and I played and discussed this quite a bit.

Agreed, never been a major issue in our games. Sometimes, my hidden deploys do a number on the enemy. Other times, they show up, I roll poorly, and my isolated unit gets wrecked up for its trouble.
