Ok...this may be a dumb question. If you are using a detachment which allows a vehicle....does the vehicle count as one of the slots?
Specifically I am looking at a tank detachment.
So would it be something like this:
1 Vet (Airborne NCO) 1 Reg (Tank Crew) 1 Reg (US Airborne) 1 Green (GIs) 1 Green (GIs) M24 Chaffee
OR
Would it be:
1 Vet (NCO) 1 Reg (M24) 1 Reg (Tank Crew) 1 Green (GIs) 1 Green (GIs)
Thanks, Jon

The vehicle does not count as a selection choice. So list one would be correct.
Edit: It is called either a Light/Medium/Heavy Tank Role, or Scout/Command/Transport Role.

Glad to see you on here, Tred! We need to play a few games using some sort of software. Sort of like what they do for Infinity and WM/Hordes.

Thanks for the clarification. I have a very pretty Chaffee resin kit on the way and was wondering how that went. Now to get some troops.
Bob...heck yeah!
I am sure we can get Vassal going

Let us know if you need any help with that. I'd be interested in vassal options for AE too.
We might have to run it by the boss and see what he thinks.

I didn't think the Tank Crew took up a slot, but just came with the tank,

shmitty. They don't take up a slot and they do just come with the tank. However you are able to take an additional tank crew for the detachment. It counts as a Regular Infantry slot and comprises the exact same ammount of models as the Tanks original crew. When I see this option, I think of the Russian Tankodesantnikis (Tank riders) and the German StuG riders.

I thought the Tank Crew entry was there just as a reference for when dismounted from their vehicle or targeted by attacks while mounted?
Edit to clarify.
I like the idea of dismounted tankers fighting alongside the tanks, but they should be fixed at 2 per selection. If, as suggested above, the tank crew selection equals the number within the tank selected in the detatchment then it (for heavy and many medium tanks at least) cancels out the one downside of a tank force-Lack of numbers.
A Heavy and Medium Tank detatchment has 1 V, 2 R and 1 G left. Using the 2R for Tank Crews and the vet and green for unit choices (assuming the hero choice is used for Tank Ace), this small, usually outnumbered force has 15 models in it (at least 10 of those being armed with submachine guns) as WELL as the tank and the men inside it. This is more than many non vehicle infantry detatchments and completely negates any downside to a tank detatchment.
This seems to me a little wrong.....

Yes I agree, one of my gaming buddies created a Panther list with the extra tank crew and I was surprised to see that he could outnumber my detachment and still have a Tank in it.
I'd opt to limit the spare tank crew, to make it a unique detachment choice that can only be fielded once for every Tank in the detachment. Or change the tank crew to a "survivors of a dead tank" choice instead, which is more to my liking, and then reducing the size of the crew to three surviving crew members. There could then be added some different choices of tank training for each crew member. An example could be a combination of one each of either a Tank Commander, Driver, Gunner, Radio Operator or a Loader for example.

You guys are correct. The tank crew cannot be taken as a regular detachment selection. They come with a tank, or not at all.
That being said, one of the scenarios we're tossing around for a future book has a set-up where you take multiple tank crews sans tanks, and have to sneak them into the depot so that they can drive the enemy armor out of the base.

Thanks for the clarification Abyssdad. It's a relief to know Tiger Tanks with SMG armed infantry hordes wont be stomping over the tabletop anytime soon The Tank Jacking scenario sounds like a hoot ;D
