This was a topic on Coast to Coast Am 640 a few weeks ago. A woman had called in and talked about what had happened as she was their. Very cool stuff..

This event was also the inspiration for Speilburg's comedy film '1941'. I'll have to hunt around, but I used to have a radio recording from 1942 that reported the incident.

Sad part is the German saucer project did exist - however all the info Ive found on it said they never nailed down a workable control system. It was left as one of those footnotes in aerospace engineering history, unless you are a conspiracy nut since the location was in southern Germany where the US did most of its tech looting...
