I'm not sure if this should go here or under "Background"... Stalin was awarded the honorary title of "Generalissimus" (General of generals) at the end of WW2. On this page: polygonv.narod.ru/vp-gen/index.htm, which is in russian, you can see some very interesting concept designs for the uniform for the rank of Generalissimus. Eventually, Stalin declined to wear any special form of dress and continued to wear the uniform of a marshal. What do you think? Could this be of any use for you?

Eventhough it looks cool it doesnt fit with the communist mentality that was present there. Everybody was equal (in theory) so to have commanders dressed up too fancy didnt make that much sense.
Bla just me ranting, I think we could still incoorporate that uniform somewhere

UNIFORM FOR THE GENERALISSIMO
When on 26 June, 1945, it was founded and appropriated supreme commander-in-chief of the armed forces OF THE USSR to Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin the highest service rank the generalissimo of the Soviet Union, then, naturally, came up the question about the insignia of ranks and the regular clothing for the person, who bears this title.
This studied, as it is assumed, the rear services of the Red Army. Development was conducted in such secret, that about it there was until recently known only from the memoirs of the former chief of the General Staff of General of the Army S.M.Shtemenko. Tol'ko in 1996 the demonstration model of the ceremonial uniform of generalissimo was advanced on the exhibition "opposition" in the central museum of the World War II of y9yay-y9yashchgg. on The poklonneye mountain. And only in the past, 2001 in the journal "native land" were published some sketches of these developments. On the basis of these materials it is possible to make following conclusions.
Initially as the basis of the insignia of ranks in the generalissimo of the Soviet Union were assumed the pursuits of Chief marshals it was ancestral troops. I.e., if the pursuits of Chief marshals were differed from the pursuits of marshals it was ancestral troops by garland from laurel leaves, which surrounded star, then the pursuit of generalissimo had to differ from the pursuit of Marshal of the Soviet Union to be characterized by garland around the star, but laurel, but oak. In this case was located in the form the fact that if by the basis of the adornment of full dress of Generals and marshals troops was ancestral the ornament in the form of laurel leaves, then the uniforms of Marshal of the Soviet Unions were decorated the ornaments from oak leaves, similar to those, which embroidered the obshchegeneral'skiye uniforms of Russian emperor army.
It was subsequently decided to replace pursuits by full dress with epaulets. In connection with this star and the coat of arms OF THE USSR they interchanged the position. They went down coat of arms downward, to venok, and star they raised upward.
The cut, the color solutions and the adornments of the objects of the regular clothing of generalissimo were developed taking into account the traditions of old Russian army. True, the question involuntarily appears with the examination of the sketches of form: and for whom was intended this clothing? In fact, the person, depicted on the sketches, reminds in no way I.V. Stalin, then similarity to G.K. by Zhukov on some of them is very noticeable. Furthermore, one of the models of full dress is clearly intended for the method of parades by the top. I.V. Stalin, as is known, to drive on the horse did not know how, but G.K.Zhukov he was excellent horseman.
When the demonstration model of ceremonial uniform- frock-coat was finished, the chief of the rear of the Red Army the General of the Army Of a.V.Khrulev in tracking of one of the Generals for his administration, which appeared in the unusual role of manekenshchika, was directed to I.V.Stalinu.
I.V.Stalin immediately understood that it, with its small increase and deficiencies in the figure will appear in this the richly embroidered uniform simply ridiculously. But this not one clever ruler allow can. Naturally, aloud he this did not say, but he read by that being present in this case to military and political figures manual about modesty of Soviet leader. In this case it added that Soviet people recognize comrade Stalin, also, in the marshal form.
Actually, to the end of the life Of i.V.Stalin it continued to bear the pursuits of Marshal of the Soviet Union. But its clothing was nevertheless not usual marshal form. Up to 1943 Of i.V.Stalin bore the traditional suit of Soviet party functionary. Specifically, traditional, but not regular. In the Communist Party the uniform never was introduced, but since almost all Soviet party leaders of that time were the former commanders or politrabotnnikami of the Red Army of the times of Civil War, and also in order to emphasize that the fact that all Communists are altogether only the soldiers of party, they bore customary for themselves paramilitary clothing - tunic or field shirt. Also I.V.Stalin dressed into the gray closed tunic and the trousers, charged into the soft Caucasian sapogi.Zimoy it it bore usual soldier overcoat or bekeshu. By head-gear by bymi in summer - peak cap -vorowilovka with the Red Army star, in winter - cap -uwanka.
When in 1943 the title of Marshal of the Soviet Union was appropriated to it, it put on the military form: the tunic of the usual military cut with the pursuits and trousers of navypusk with the stripes. True, they were light grey, instead of those established of shielding and dark blue it was color.
However, for the man of old age the standing collar of tunic presented the specific inconveniences. Therefore To i.V.Stalinu there was it poshit new suit. This was the closed light grey tunic with the turn-down collar and four pockets of the same cut, that bore the Soviet Generals before the introduction pursuit. The same of tunic after war bore Soviet gossluzhashchiye of the lowest ranks. Tunic was decorated with the pursuits of Marshal of the Soviet Union and with general overcoat buttonholes - red with the gold edging and with buttons. Collar and cuffs, as usual, were edged by red edgings. Trousers of navypusk with the red stripes were cross-linked from the same cloth, as tunic.
This suit no longer bore no one. In it i.V.Stalin was depicted on the official portraits and plakatakh. On and it became the only uniform of the generalissimo of the Soviet Union. But the demonstration model of ceremonial uniform- frock-coat occupied place in the closed museum of military clothing.

Well, the idea that I had in mind was that the pictures in this article could serve as inspiration if you want to make a multi-part "Red Warlord" figure set.
