anyway to give you ideas for the russian troops this thread will include my ideas. uniforms: now the uniform on your current russian troops are great. i would like to see higher level troops getting greatcoats. the penal troops should be starved and have rags for clothing. commisars and officers should have caps to mark their status.
weapons i dont know a great deal about russian weaponry but the basic troops should be armed with kalashnikov rifles or other simple weaponry.
extra items russans shouldnt have many extra items but rags, and ammo pouches would be nice.

The penal troops are going to be human bombs. The sculptor (he's Russian) has given us some great ideas on what he would like to see in the Russian line. The Penal troops are a historical unit.

Hello, my name is Kirill. I`m Darkson Designs sculptor and i am Russian, realy. Think, human bomb is much characterfull for Japanese wit they path of samurai, not for Russians:) For the battlefield enough way for be dead, for example, suicidal charge to the tank with single anti tank grenade. Yes, i know about heroical suicidal acts, for example, closing of machinegun embrasure to our body, but this is more exclusion than ordinary pratice. To my look will be better something like WH40K demolition charge with minimal chance for thrower keep his life.

"human bomb is much characterfull for Japanese wit they path of samurai" We have something very "evil" planed for the Japanese. Their army will be very heavy into the use of "Chemical" weapons.

Hopefully we can keep the "evil" japanese chemical weapons scene somewhat tame. It could prove to be risky business if darkson strayed too close to something similiar as UNIT 731 with the fluff.

Unit Seven Hundred Thirty-One was a Japanese chemical weapons development unit known for experimenting with new designs on captured soldiers or Chinese civilians.

I mean we could give this game a very dark and mean feel to it...lets not make it too goodie good good. That's just my two cents here!

You can make a dark setting without sticking too close to historical warcrime matter. It's also distateful in a way, especially since the victims were raped, tortured, and had several diseases injected into them. Why does that belong in a skirmish level game?
And I was under impression this game didn't have a dark setting to it. I honestly can't find anything "dark" about weirdo germans with big bulky flashlights on their heads, japanese guys running in a middle of a firefight with garden hoses spraying poison and all the other junk. This game reminds me more of a comic book than anything else.
If I saw anything like that on a battlefield I'd probably laugh.

Why not the warcrimes? They happen in every war. Yes people get raped and murdered, that is what war is about, killing, murder, conquest, rape, etc etc.
Make everybody a bad guy, both the Allies and Axis fight for their own imperialist needs and will gladly kill everything that stands in their way.
The world is a cruel place, not a place where some happy big guy in blue spandex will tell you everybody can be free...

Of course war contains all those things. It's something that follows war and doesn't even need to be mentioned. War will always have rape, torture and other wicked stuff.
It's as obvious as saying "people die in war", you don't need to mention it. The most important question is, why does this need to be in a skirmish level game? Keep that stuff to some far away background fluff piece. I don't want to see a nazi scientist cutting open his latest Jew or slav victim in the middle of a battlefield. It makes no sense.

Im not saying we should put this in the wargame, but it would be something for the background, like you mentioned. However I dont think we should hide it too far, let the German monstrosoties be mentioned, perhaps they were crucial for their "uber mensch" experiments, similar to the construction of the Japanese chemical and biological weapons. But also show that these nations believed they did the right thing, this doesnt mean I want to justify all this, but these people truly believed they did the right thing, sort of that they were that far indoctrinated that they didnt know any better. Remember that WWII could be considered one of the most horrible if not the most horrible war in human history, and we should stick to that feel! We got quite off topic here, we should perhaps move this discussion to here
