true, look at the german army in which the mg teeam would lay down a murderous amount of suspression fire whist grenadiers would move forward then lay there own high rate of fire for the mg team to either move or re-align to another target. Trialled a game with my russian opponent using veteran detachments with smg units. Very messy, but very exciting, and the game became very tactical, as volume and rate of fire was now being calculated by both sides and made all movement, use of cover, and taking/defending objectives more critical. I would propose that "officail house rule" variants could be added either by OTW, or by mutual agreement of both players. I would suggest people try the idea to see a) if it "feels" comfortable, & b) does it suit the style of game-play used. Just a thought,........any ideas/points ??

it is something that I have proposed to my group, but they are blanching at the idea, mainly because of the fact that my PPsH have an ROF of 4 and theirs do not...I am thinking of writing a scenario that would include that specifically, but it would have to be tested a lot to make sure that it is somewhat balanced and tactical, but still challenging and fun to play...

the guys I play against are VERY adept at using suppression fire & move in cover tactics, so I've gotten very used to using high rates of fire to move before even thinking about who I trying to kill

Open tables with limited terrain make short ranged weapons less powerful, which makes sense, because the longer ranged weapons are more potent without cover. Tables with lots of terrain for cover make the high ROF weapons more important, because you need more hits to get past the armor saves. I think that works rather well, because it fits why they wanted the SMG's in the field.

well, we play with a lot of terrain (we usually play a game on Infinity beforehand to get things going), so that is why they really don't like the thought of me having all those shots...

likewise with my group, its usually med to heavy ruins/city terrain (battle for stalingrad) when we play.

This is why we designed a Points Free system. It gives you the flexibility to design new units and not have to worry about number crunching. You guys have had some great ideas and we are look forward to see the results of your games.
We may have to start a Unofficial Rules topic and stickie it.
Cheers, Robert
