I played the Soviets in Foraging on Tuesday. Fun mission. I had the following:
Vet Detachment:
Elite Technician
Vet Rocket Troops
Reg Buffalo
Reg Airborne
Green Robots
He had off memory:
Psi Officer
2 sets of Psi Commandos
Psicannon
Chumans
Sniper
We started off placing, we had 4 to place. Mine were placed relatively close, he made the mistake of placing one too far to the middle.
I started the game by using my Straggler special order (maybe one of the coolest in the game) and put his Psi Officer in reserve, it took him 4 turns to find the battlefield
My Rocket troops activated first, moving 18" and getting behind cover close to my farthest out marker. His Chumans grabbed his closest marker. I moved my Airborne close to my other marker. He moved his first commandos up and put a wound on one rocket troop. I moved my Robots towards the chumans... but they're slow His other commandos moved up and put a wound on the other trooper. I then moved my Tech to the Buffalo and gave him 2 AP. He moved his psicannons up and killed one rocket troop. I moved my buffalo 8 inches to towards the middle to protect the last marker (it was on a roof, so it would be tough to get it anyway). He popped a shot with his sniper towards my last rocket troop that missed.
I won the Drive roll. I move my rocket troop out of any possible line of sight protecting one marker. He grabs his marker with his chumans. I moved the Robots up hoping for a shot on the Chumans. I get them in target range of 2 of them, but missed all shots (suppressing them would only have moved them backwards which I didn't want). His rolling then went south. None of his commandos did well shooting anything. His other commandos moved to the building with the marker. My tech feuled my buffalo again with 2 AP and then tried to pop a shot another set of commando's missing. My buffalo moved inside the building, ignited his Tesla gun and vaporized the two commando's on the other side of the wall, protecting the marker again. This is where it mostly ended. He couldn't get anything to harm the buffalo, even his mental's weren't damaging it. The Tesla gun blazed the psicannon crew and the other commando's were picked off by the airborne model without the marker and my tech. I ended up with 2 markers to his 1.
He is learning though, and was not using his army as we were waiting for our Darkson care package to arrive to the LGS (which happened today, our wallets are overfilled with excitement) and he will be our german player. We hacked him out an experimental list that looks real decent, so it may not go so easy for me next game.
