Got a few games in with some friends down at the LGS and I thought I'd share.
Game one was a total blowout. Foraging scenario. I was running an American support detachment with a MG, mortar and bazooka (among lots more) and my buddy was running an experimental detachment with a sturmaffe, emaciateds, feuersoldat and a few other things. A couple of spot-on mortar hits totally tanked his morale pretty quick. He rolled a 1 with his doc trying to inoculate the ape. A unit of volkssturm and the doktor then began sacrificing themselves leading the berserk ape towards my units (a rather ingenious ploy that only cost him a few models). I finally killed the ape with a bazooka shot and the last of his units routed. A decisive American victory due to terrible German rolls and some great sniper-like mortar strikes. He took it in stride.
My next two games were not nearly as decisive. I played the same American support detachment and my opponent had a veteran detachment with an assassin sniper, SD Agent, officer, mg team and a bunch of infantry. We played 'Welcome to Hell'. The only death due to artillery strikes was his officer on turn 4. Turn one saw some sniper wars where my marksman sniper shot and wounded his assassin sniper who returned fire, killing my sniper. Turns out we both had the same secondary objective - to kill the opponent's sniper (assassination and we each picked the enemy sniper). The rest of the game saw the Americans with a good mortar hit or two and a few other good shots that wore down his morale and after the officer died he couldn't hold it together. I claimed the primary, he claimed his secondary so it was a draw. Damn assassin snipers.
The second game I was BARELY able to pull another tie. We played 'Scattered' and I was the defender, so I was already in a bad spot. It took 4 or 5 turns to rush my GI's across the table to accomplish my secondary of breakthrough. The only reason I got it was he rolled a 1 with a sniper shot and couldn't kill one of them with the MG42. Aside from that his sniper and mg did a number on my mortar and mg team. A final burst from the MG42 failed to kill an exposed member of the bazooka team, which would have given him the attrition rate objective. I conceded the field of battle, which gave me my secondary - he claimed the primary and we managed another draw. I got SERIOUSLY lucky, but it was a good game either way.
Wednesday nights are going to be a blast at my LGS now that we're getting a group together weekly to play.
