Very nice find. That would make a great terrain piece. You could design a scenario around it. ;D

It could be used for all sorts of things! Mobile robot control-tower, big-ass Tesla cannon, microwave cannon for the Japanese, etc. It would definitely make a nice piece for a scenario. Excellent find!

That is a cool kit. The Maser Cannon was created for the 1966 film 'War of the Gargantuas' and used a type of iodine bulb that actually shot out a beam of light (the beams that are seen leaping from the cannon are not an optical effect, they really produced it) so long as the bulb was maintained in a perfectly horizontal position. Be aware that it should be a very large kit if it is really 1/48 given that the maser cannons absolutely dwarf the Type-70 tanks commonly seen in Toho films of the period.
This exact style of maser cannon was recently revived for 2002's 'Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla', which was a nice throwback to classic monster movies.
