This is a time-line of the AE-WWII sculpts. This will show you the progression in style, design, and continued modifications that we have done based on your feedback. The first sculpt was done about 5 years ago and started out as a test sculpt. This sculpt had the head attached to the body. The Gun was attached to one hand and the other hand was made to support it.

The first official Darkson miniatures came in the form of a 3 pack of Germans and a 2 pack of Soviets. The style was changed as now the heads and weapons were separate to allow more versatility. [glow=blue,2,300]German 3 pack (Volkssturm)[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]Soviet 2 pack (Conscripts)[/glow] These miniatures were done before the rules system was in development as we were thinking of just doing an Alternate Events WWII miniature line. None of the above miniatures had tabs to attach them to the bases. Fact: The original name was going to be "Unknown Tomorrow".Also sculpted at the same time were the Soviet Snipers 2 pack. The also had the separate weapon. [glow=red,2,300]Soviet Snipers[/glow]

With the beginning of the development of a basic rules set we started to add more miniature to the line. We now had a basic idea of what we wanted the Three main factions to be themed around. The Germans were to be a Faction heavy into Genetic manipulation and experimentation. Being a huge fan of Hellboy and DUST I wanted to make sure that the Germans had a big ape that could smash troops, trucks, and tanks. [glow=blue,2,300]German Starter Force[/glow] With the Americans I wanted to have a very tech feel to them. Growing up I always went to my local YMCA and built SF3D models whenever the modeling classes were going on. This influenced the look I wanted for the American armor. [glow=green,2,300]American Starter Force[/glow] The designs in the sculpts change again. Now the miniatures are being tabbed so that it is easier to mount them on our bases. Looking at several Forge World sculpt I had noticed that the weapons had the hands attached to them but were cut at the wrist. We thought this might be the way to go so the change was made. Also released at the same time as the starter forces were American Sgt Graves and the German Female NCO. [glow=green,2,300]Segregant Graves[/glow] [glow=blue,2,300]German Female NCO[/glow] The German NCO is based on Sigrid from DUST. Paolo was kind enough to let us use her as the inspiration and is a fan of AE-WWII.

We now had a basic rules system after several variations including a larger scale version of the game. The reasoning behind the system we chose is that we wanted a fast paced bloody game where opponents could react to each others moves and not get bogged down by trying to move loads of miniatures. We wanted the game to be based on stories not just kill and be killed style gaming. In the American Starter we introduced a different style of arm weapon combo. The Sniper went back to the original design of the weapon held in one hand and supported by the other. We felt that this was the best way to go as there we not the awkward joints at the wrist or the messing around with trying to keep the weapon in the models hands. With this style design locked in we pressed on with the design process. Next up the OSS Agent Wolf. Using the weapon in hand style the sculptor moved to a dynamic leaping pose. [glow=green,2,300]OSS Agent Wolf[/glow] Growing up my dad made sure that I knew who Doc Savage and The Shadow were. He had tapes of the radio broadcast and so part of our father/son time was spent listening to the programs. He made sure to space them out so that the shows lasted for quite a bit of time. Always being a fan of Doc I thought that Wolf would be the perfect time to have a sculpt of the hero from the past.
