For my Airborne Officer it says that I can exchange his Thompson for a Carbine gun.
They are both the same range and strength, only the carbine has a lower rate of fire.
So why would one do that? Am I missing a rule or an update to one of those guns?

They are both the same range and strength... Well the Thomspon fires three shots for every AP you spend so its creates a significant amount of fire and with a Veteran that means that you can put out 9 shots an activation as opposed to three.

That's my point exactly. But I was wondering why would one downgrade a weapon? If they have the exact same stats, why would I want the gun that fires less?

Potentially it's there for those people that built their minis before getting the complete rules that strictly play WYSIWYG.
That, or for fluff reasons you might want him equipped with a carbine, since he's one of the lads like the airborne he's equipped the same...
