What's everyone's favorite plane of WWII? I'm split between the Mustand and Lightning. Watching Dog Fights on The History Channel, showed a double ace from WWII that flew a Lightning. Crazy! He and his wingman took on 50-60 MEs, and survived. They got a few before getting out of there, was insane!

I'll take the Blohm und Voss Bv 141 for freaky coolness (its got looks to trump some of the AE equipment) but overall I personally like the Me 109. Even though it had faults it stood up to everything it went up against with at least close to even odds, due to a long long progression of improvements. And the absolute ace of all aces, past and present, flew one even when offered newer aircraft like the Fw 190 series. I mean if Erich Hartmann who earned a staggering 352 kills in approximately 3 years of front line service, liked the 109 well it sounds like a good start to me. And even more amazingly he only ever had a single wingman shot down in his 1400+ missions - and it was a guy he thought shouldn't have been flying combat missions in the 109 yet.
I would have loved to have seen the F8F Bearcat enter service too, as the poor plane was impressively built but wasn't delivered till right around the Japanese surrender

Wow... Talk about the best fighter pilot ever. And he lived up until 1993. How many times is he an Ace?! 71!!!! That's insane!!!

I'm a fan of the Ju-87, the Stuka, ever since I saw The Battle of Britian. Really distinct look to it.

I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but in any Weird WWII setting there needs to be the Vought XF5U Flying Pancake.
The Ki84 "Hayate" is pretty cool too and hasn't been mentioned yet.

There are much better and much crazier Go here => luft46.com/Among them is the delta wing design that would have been built predominantly with wood, powered with coal dust and a synthetic fuel produced from coal, and do MACH 3!!! (and the scary part is it was a very sound design, and the designers notes were used by the US in the X plane series)

When I was a kid I loved to watch the TV show "Black Sheep Squadron"... because of that show my favorite WWII plane has always been the F4U Corsair.
