I came across this, Project Habakkuk, and thought it would make some great fluff for the British in AE-WWII. Neat idea of using ice to make an aircraft carrier. Perhaps in AE, there could be several of these things patrolling the North Atlantic and Arctic Circle launching attacks on Axis forces and being an overall base of operations for the Royal Navy. Maybe there's something in the Arctic Circle the British have discovered and want to keep from everyone else (Germans, Japanese, Soviets and maybe even the US). They've built a massive shipyard in Newfoundland to build a fleet of ships like this to patrol the region and to launch bomber attacks into Japan and occupied northern europe. Also to support supply activities into the Soviet Union and to coordinate intelligence and covert operations on the Soviets. Anyways, I thought it might look cool to have a table layout based on a hanger of one of these. I nice mix of steel catwalks and frozen ice with a few RAF bombers in the center. Royal Marines trying to thwart an incursion by German Kommandoes or something.

When I first looked at the picture the propeller + motor housings looked like whales.
I like my version better. 8)

The history channel discussed this on one of thier WWII programs I can't remember the name of it now, might have been something like "wierd weapons of WWII" or something to that effect and mythbusters did try to make a boat out of ice in one of their episodes. The brits used a hybrid version of ice called pycrete or something to make large decks out of and it was said to be somewhat viable as a building material (all be it in certain temperatures)as far as strength's went.
I could totally see this in AE WWII, it would give a nice flavor to the brits.

The primary flaw with the Mythbusters attempt was the lack of the refrigeration system that was designed into the original plans. The newspaper super Pykerete was impressive but when its being kept frozen properly its even better.
