The main reason for not having Zombies is it has been done to death. But we did just post rules for them in OTW #14.

Sorry I had to come back when I saw a post that AE-WWII is a bit more grounded in the real world than SOTR. Really? I love the game. But w/ Wendigos, vampires, feuersoldat, skinwalkers, exploding ROA cannibal midgets? Genetically and cybernetically altered super apes? You're going to say AE-WWII is 70% history with only 30% sci-fi? One quick point to add to the discussion here: AE-WWII can be weird or it can be played completely straight or you can mix it up. We play test the heck out of things so that a player can win against the weird without taking those non-historical units too. In fact, the big winners last year at GENCON played pure historical detachments. I haven't played SOTR much. So I don't know if the same is true for them.

I haven't played SOTR much. So I don't know if the same is true for them. From what I've seen, even the 'normal' SoTR units look pulpy with their gas masks and armour. AE-WWII's models tend to be much closer to reality (except for some of the Germans ).

Yes I will say it is - my SS detachment that is collecting dust till i figure out a better way to paint black is historical troops with some pulpy doodads on the boss. Thats it - its based on gropos with the assault rifles, nothing fancier than that. Then if you look over at SoTR with its mecha and zombies and "Siberians" its extremely realistic. Is it exactly historical? No but Im not asking it to be - as I'll probably add in a ReichRitter if Darkson gets around to it (yes Rob - my mantra again, make me the pulpy figures as I can already buy the historical) Its all what you make of it - though Id be fascinated to see a 90% historical SoTR army, I dont think the rules will let it happen

Well I've got the SotTR rules, and I'd have to say that like AE-WWII you can play a totally conventional historical unit. All of the the pulpy stuff is optional, even the stuff like body armor and a few weapon options. There are mecha, but there's tons of stats for historical vehicles. Then there's rules to make your own mecha or modify a historical vehicle with some high tech gear. The weapon names are sci fi, but stat-wise they are generic and no different than the historical stuff.
The models themselves make them look more pulpy and sci-fi with the gask masks, body armor, and modified weapons. I'll admit most of the weapons are pretty 'blah' and the hands are really small on the figures (like that guy in the Burger King commericals). Nothing really stopping you from using regular historical figures in SotTR either, I've already got a bunch mixed in (including some of my AE-WWII figures).
In fact I read that Westwind plans to release a historical version of SotTR rules. I sounds like SotTR but without the pulp. Not sure why other than to market it to purely historical players who probably turn their nose up at the thought of Nazi Zombies and Mecha. As Westwind already has a line of historical WWII figures, this is a smart move I guess to promote that line of figures with an existing game system.

Thanks for the information. It's good to know that SOTR can be played straight too.
