Please check out the wording and let us know what you guys think? We will make this topic a sticky and when we do the next printing of the Core Rule book we will make the changes that make this a bit easier to understand.
FORCE ORGANIZATION
The group of models a player brings to battle is called a detachment and is made up of soldiers and units of varying Training Levels and Troop Types. When selecting forces for their detachment, players begin by selecting a Detachment Type. Each Detachment Type provides players with a basic framework with which to build their force. The Detachment Types determine the number of slots available in a detachment’s composition, how many heroes a detachment automatically receives, if any vehicles can be selected, the number and type of special orders available, as well as a simple theme. Players then choose the units in their detachment as well as any other items, such as vehicles and special orders, based on the Detachment Type selected.
Each unit selection fills one available slot in a player’s army list. A unit selection can represent a single model (such as a Sniper or an Officer) or a squad of models (such as a pair of Airborne Soldiers); the composition of each unit selection is based on the player’s army list.
Many units have the option of increasing their Training Level, making them more skilled. These models or units benefit from an increase in AP, but now count as a different selection in the Detachment Composition (all based on their new Training Level). Players should be able to clearly keep track of the Training Level of their soldiers and soldiers with an upgraded Training Level should be easily differentiated from those with a lower TL. The available slots for a unit selection may also be upgraded or downgraded to fit in different model selections with different training levels or troop types. Players are not required to use the options to change the training level of a unit selection or a unit.
Players are free to develop their own detachment types based on ideas from movies or books or personal experience in the military. Certain scenarios and campaigns will also call for detachment types that are different from the ones described in this book.
Troop Type Restrictions
Not all Troop Types can be taken in a standard Detachment Composition. Certain conditions must be met to “unlock” these options as available unit selections for a detachment. Players should keep in mind these restrictions when choosing their forces. See the individual army lists as well as the Troop Type descriptions for each troop type’s specific restrictions.
Options
In addition to the various choices players make when selecting their forces, each detachment allows players one or more opportunities to further customize their force. With these options, players can remove a unit selection from their detachment in order to exchange it for an alternative. Players have the option of removing one or more unit selections to exchange them for any of the following:
1. An available slot of a lower Training Level,
2. An available slot of a higher Training Level,
3. An additional Hero upgrade to an individual model,
4. An additional Special Order, upgrade an existing unit’s TL by one (Green to Regular, etc),
5. Upgrade an existing vehicle selection’s role (Light to Medium, etc).
When a unit is exchanged for another unit of lower TL, this new unit must adhere to any restrictions placed on the detachment, as well as any Troop Type restrictions. The new unit must be at least one TL below the unit being replaced.
An additional Hero upgrade may only be used on Individuals that have the option to be upgraded to a hero.
Additional Special Orders may only be selected from those normally allowed to the detachment.
Upgrading an existing unit’s Training Level may only be done on units that have this option. Vehicles can be upgraded in this way.

Examples of Using Options in detachments
Supplementing the experimental units of the detachment with
officers, snipers and other specialists is usually a good way to
diversify experimental detachments. These detachments however,
suffer from a lack of options available to many other detachment
types. Sacrificing a Green selection to add an additional special
order is a hit or miss proposition as the special orders available to
the detachment are very limited. Adding an additional hero type
is often a good idea and, when combined with a sniper or other
specialist unit, can be a nice addition to the detachment.
Sample Experimental Detachment
Like Rocket Troopers? Then this detachment is for you! Here
we show the extremes to which an experimental detachment can
be taken. This detachment is as mobile as you can get with a total
of 13 models with rocket packs. That many Tesla pistols means
cover is useless. Good luck hiding from these guys.
