Welcome to the forum!
This topic should be moved to the AE-WWII section of the board.
But, to answer your question, we would of course prefer that you use our minis, but there are lots of great mini companies out there. People do use West Wind minis in the game. See the thread on CmdrKiley's painted figs for several painted examples of neat looking SOTR type minis.
There are no rules for mecha in the game, but you are free to come up with your own in games with friends. A few people have developed walker rules that are pretty fun to play with. Look around the forum and you'll find them.
The rules for a wide range of historical tanks are coming soon in our downloadable magazine Over the Wire. The rules for weird tanks are coming soon too.
Cheers,
Chris

The goal for the AE range is to give you the Weird first and than hit you with the historical. In some cases we will be walking into ground that has never been covered by anyone before so we will be working on Weird and Historical at the same time just to make sure you have the proper figs to play the Factions we throw at you. No point in giving you a book and you not being able to play because the market does not have the figs you need to play.

I know alot of people dont enjoy them like I do but something as simple as a head swap can turn a German soldier is winter weather gear with a 98k into a Finn with a Mosin-Nagant.

Yep. Conversions are fun but it's always good to have a model at least close to what you need. If we are perssing into uncharted areas than we as a company need to make sure to get the players what they need.

That would be great. Especially since so many companies already make the historical models.

We are working on getting the Weird stuff for the Occult book done as well as some very sick sculpts done for the next book so when it is released we will have some very cool models to support it. Plus we need the figs for photos in the book. It would just be wrong to only have art in a mini book right?

If we are perssing into uncharted areas than we as a company need to make sure to get the players what they need. I agree with that - its just I would rather see all the occult units from the core book have models before you did projects like the Airborne single piece minis. The quality is nice but I think play wise, I as a gamer need say the PSI Commando or Psi Cannon team far more than I need the Heavy Weapon teams. I'll be the first to admit that the MG42 team youve produced is much much nicer than the Artizan MG42 squad I already use. But I can already get a machine gun team while I cant get a "Skinnie". I can even get a cybernetic gorilla thanks to reaper. I'm not saying dont make historical minis, but conversion packs might be more worthwhile as compliments to the wierd models, at least at first. Say when we get to the Italian Campaign or Free French/Vichy in the ETO book, a conversion pack for Axis and Allies troopers would be more immediately useful to me than waiting alot longer for very pretty, very detailed figures. Admittedly this is just me and Im a conversion nut and I know other people are more "just give me a one piece model thats quick to paint" so your mileage may vary

This weeks Weird War Wednesday will finish out the Weird units for the Core Rule book and we are diving full force into the Occult units. But we are also aware that some players find some of our first mins that were done 5 or 6 years ago fiddily. So we want to make sure we have some good options for players that still want to use all Darkson figs.
