Another expansion idea.
Thinking that the Alaska idea I've mentioned in American Homefront thread might expand beyond the original scope of the American Homefront idea. How about putting it into another expansion and expanding the idea to incude the following.
- Alaskan Campaign (Americans, Japanese, and Soviets) - the three powers are fighting for this strategic point over the northern Pacific as oil resources are becoming scarce. Alaska becomes the first major battleground in North America. American Militias (many of whom were displaced farmers from the Great Depression) are questioning staying with the stretched thin US, who seems to have abandonded them to the Japanese and Soviets, and why are all these 'friendly' Canadians here so willing to help out?
- Arctic Campaign (Americans, British, Canadians, Soviets and Germans) - the Germans plan a secret missile base to rain down rockets on America and Russia. Canadian explorers on find something buried deep within the polar ice cap giving off psychic emissions. The last word from them was an unexpected contact with a Soviet expedition. The British patrol this area with their iceberg carriers and launch Allied missions into the arctic and North Atlantic from these ships. The secret shipyards must be protected.
- Antarctic Campaign (Germans, British, Austrailians, Argentinians, South Africans, Americans, maybe Japanese and Soviets) - word of a secret German base in Antarctica has prompted an Allied Expedition there. What is so important there that the Germans invested enough to build a base there? Argentina joins the Axis pledges their support in kicking the British Empire out of that hemisphere.
- Canadian faction includes a tech faction (think snowmobiles!) and an occult faction (similar to the American OORD with Native American and Eskimo stuff)
- Ski Troops for all factions (perhaps allows sprint actions in cold weather conditions that normally wouldn't allow it, like deep snow)
- Extreme cold weather rules (limited outdoor exposure, weapon jams, snowstorms, reduced movement, volcanic eruptions, etc.)
- Neutral Threats (Polar Bears and/or Abommible Snowmen for the Arctic and Alaskan and how about something like the alien from John Carpenter's The Thing for the Antarctic) as a threat to both parties involved.
- Dog teams and snow mobiles something like a militarized Bombardier. As it seems like this is about the time the modern snowmobile was about to take shape, it seems only right to add a Weird War tech version of it to the AE-WWII history. An APC version and perhaps a smaller 1-2 man version (think about using similar rules to motorcycles, but can be used in snow).
- Powered Armor Explorer Suits - lightweight unarmored versions of the Buffalo that were designed to protect the user from extreme cold rather than bullets. User gets maybe a +1 point upgrade in Armor but +1 RC and -1 CC and has Slow. However he ignores hazards imposed by cold weather arctic conditions.
This could prompt a whole new line of minis too. Such as regular GIs and Wehrmacht in cold weather gear.
