I liked the part in the related links where it suggests that the reason Sun-Koh is no longer around is because Doc Savage kicked his face in.

Sadly, I can't appreciate that as much because Doc Savage really annoys the hell out of me. A total Mary Sue character if there ever was one. He's just too damn perfect at everything, never has the bad guys outsmart him, jadda jadda jadda. I much prefer The Shadow, who actually uses his brain in a problem solving fashion rather than a fiat-type set up where he solves a problem just by inventing some new plot device. I'd prefer to think that Sun Koh made the mistake of tangling with The Shadow rather than Doc - because The Shadow would've iced him with a brace of .45 vengeance, not some convenient accident.
There was a modern take on a German version of The Shadow in the comic series 'Iron Ghost', with the title character preying upon prominent Nazis in wartime Berlin. Unfortunately the series wasn't very well written: you don't go killing off all your suspects almost as soon as you introduce them and still claim to be playing fair about who the Iron Ghost is.

This is my complaint with how a lot of writers write Batman. If he's that awesome all the time, it's hard to challenge him. That being said, I'm keeping my eye on DC's First Wave, as it has both Batman and Doc Savage.

I picked up the first 2 issues of First Wave. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing.
It's not worth it IMO. But I'm a little jaded on DC after they messed up the Flash's return and spent upteen million issues on Crisis and Blackest Night.
I really like Doc Savage. There's just something about him that's interesting. Different from Batman. But I can see your point.
I agree that Batman can be monotonous. How many times can he die and be re-born? How does he stay this awesome? The spin-offs from Batman are great. I really liked Batwoman from last summer.
And Clint, keep up this attitude against popular comics and you will be mandated to do an American Homefront Expansion that does heroes right! ;D
Not that anyone would mind...
Cheers,
Chris

We'll see when that time comes. Have to get the war itself properly sorted out first though. I am involved with my friend John Helmer and his Red Leaf Comics in creating the background for The Imperials, a British WWII superhero team and their assorted Axis (and Soviet) adversaries.
The Sun Koh book arrived yesterday, but it'll be a little while before I can read it. I'll be sure to post an update when I do though.
