I'm hoping to finish up some house rules for Finns....not that anyone else would use 'em but there's a chance my local opponents will allow them and I want to find a use for the Bolt Action minis I've seen....
Erillinen Pataljoona (ErP) Hunters
In the autumn of 1943, Finnish military planners authorized the establishment of Erillinen Pataljoona 4; a long-range reconnaissance formation (battalion-sized) with the stated mission of operating far behind Soviet lines. The idea quickly gained the attention of high ranking Nazi officials in Berlin, where Himmler, and even Hitler, had come to value the fighting qualities of the Finnish soldier thanks, in large part, to the performance of xxxx and yyyy. Axis reversals that year might have seen Zhukov’s troops on Finnish soil, but those in power saw a glimmer of hope in the isolated actions won by ruthless, and enterprising, ErP scouts.
By October of the following year, three distinct ErP battalions were gathering invaluable intelligence regarding Russian movements along the northern sector of the Eastern Front – and wreaking havoc along enemy lines of supply and communication. In November, Moscow was staggered when the 3rd Baltic Front, already reeling from an Axis counteroffensive, saw its command staff assassinated by an understrength company from Erillinen Pataljoona 5.
By then ErP sub-units, typically platoon in strength, were already on loan to Wehrmacht divisions fighting in other theaters. All of this was a result of Berlin’s agreement to a two-year contract detailing the subornation of Finnish troops in exchange for increased weapons shipments.
These “advisers” quickly gained a reputation for their ability to neutralize the Soviet Psi operatives that were causing conventional Heer grenadiers such grief in the Ukraine..and by late 1945 this knack had extended to dealing with American assets dependent on Tesla-based technology. Traditionally-minded Wehrmacht officers might have balked at the spectacle of a fully-planned and executed ErP ambush, but they couldn’t deny the results. Their counterparts in the SS and SD, men and women who held no such compunctions, were so impressed that by the opening days of 1946 it was not unusual to find an especially cynical Finnish officer taking the field as part of a highly lucrative (and unofficial) side contract.
Ideas
Two-man "Hunter" teams with Hidden Deployment and SMGs. Every 3rd team can field a M27 bolt action and a LMG. No grenades...just molotovs.
HMG teams with the Finns' souped up, 850 RPM maxim.
Snipers
That SOTR "were-bear" stolen to fight on behalf of the Finns.
HQ
I just think it could be fun.
