In the definition of trap, you can set the trap off on an enemy when they move within, on, or "near" the terrain piece.
What constitutes "near?" 1"? 2"? The base size of the model?

My guess would be that it's base to base contact.

My guess would be that it's base to base contact. Yeah...that's the easiest way to play it. We decided to play it that way in any games we use Trap. In addition, there should be some limit on the size of the terrain piece...what if the piece of terrain is a big piece and covers a large footprint. That makes for serious coverage area.

But then again it's only a single template, and it should probably be agreed between the players or if it's tournament, the by an umpire.
