Hello all Haven't been able to get the book yet but have been greedily hunting down all reviews and bits of ino that I can. Is this review and comment accurate about CC ? theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=208453I'd hate to think all those guns go to waste.

Thanks for the link to the review. Welcome to the forum!
To your questions and some of the comments in the review...
I can say that the 'CC being too powerful' comment is the first time I've ever seen it or heard about it. Most players complain that they think the close combat rules in the AE system are too weak in favor of shooting. I tend to think they are fairly balanced in Bounty but the scenario can tilt the preference one way or the other.
In starship scenarios, how you set up the board can have a large impact on line of sight. If there's a long hallway, crews with access to sniper rifles will probably be really powerful. If it's a rabbit's nest of rooms and the longest distance you can draw a line across is 6 inches, the advantage of a firearm will be muted somewhat. But you get to determine how the starships are set up in most cases, so you can tailor the layout to games that you and your friends think are fair and fun to play on.
People can set up their crews to have a rush forward and crush kind of play style in ship scenarios. However, that will tend to reduce the kind of gear they can take to increase their speed. Also, effects like low gravity, problems with life support, etc., tend mitigate that on board a ship too. And finally, you always have a few dirty tricks to throw out and level the playing the field.
As for cover really trumping shooting, there are plenty of weapons that ignore cover, so, as long as you can see someone, you can shoot them.
Feel free to post whatever comments or questions you have about the game on the forum. We do read them and discuss them. It's how we get better.
Best Regards,
Chris

What's nice about CC is that both players roll a die and add their CC scores...the one that gets a higher total wins...
However, that's not what you are worried about. A lot of the ranged weapons in Bounty cover a lot distance. This helps mitigate the fact that a CC monster can usually kill a lot of things simply because it's going to take time for that monster to get across the board. In addition, the LRF weapons shoot multiple times. So not only are you covering a lot of space with ranged weapons, but you also get multiple shots on a target.
I think that evens things out a bit. So far, I haven't experienced anything out of what or abnormal, but I've played less than five games so far.

While if kitted out right a CC specialist can ruin just about anything on the board rather quickly, I would say that the review stating that CC is overpowered is a gross overstatement. Considering how effectively you can suppress models, and that the model has to cover distance once it break suppression, I don't think it's really an issue. As said by Varagon, you can potentially kill many more models with a model using a ranged weapon, as you don't have to use as many of your activations crossing the board. In general I think CC can be powerful, but not more than ranged.
I think a pretty good balance is struck. At least from the few games I have played.

Don't forget as well, it's the combination of your crewmembers that help balance things out. In most AE Bounty games, the scenario isn't specifically designed for all out killing...
Has anyone with more experience found any imbalance one way or the other with range VS close combat?

I think like most games you see or get hit by a nasty "Combo" and than you learn how to counter it and you won't get suckered by it again. It's part of the fun of playing new people you get to see what they come up with and than add there tricksto your tool box to use against your regular opponent.

Although cc seems more powerful you have to go through suppression fire and avoiding death before you actually reach cc range.
