One problem I've run into is the limited range of melee weapons. I like to re-skin stuff so it's not much of a problem but it would be nice to have some codified rules optiuons to give something other than Mono-Wire swords to effective melee choices when I play more literally minded rule followers. Sword is the clear choice between that and Heavy Melee and with only one melee gear upgrade that again favours the already better sword it leaves other options in the dust. I love modelling a wide variety of weapons and would like to see ones armed with force hammers, vibro axes and all form of pointy, crunchy and squishy weaponry rather than sword, sword, sword. Are there any planned gear and weapon expansions in OTW? I don't want to better the Mono-Wire sword but a couple of comparable options would be nice. Likewise gear options like Cybernetic Legs (+1Mv) vs Gravity Belt (+1Mv and Flight) where there is one clearly better option with little fluff loss. Is this deliberate or an oversight? Other than a few small picks like this I find the rules to be pretty tight and am enjoying them very much

Good points, Muddy. Obviously I was not involved in any design features of Bounty, but when I'm creating a crew, if I want one to have a hammer, I simply use the sword stat, or use the heavy weapon stat.
Name is only a placeholder, a symbol, for the weapon's affect.
In instances like cybernetic legs VS grav belt, you can only have one upgrade type. This allows you to get the benefit from grav belt if you have another cyber upgrade, such as arms.
When I first started Bounty, I to, was confused at the few choices of weapons. Since you have upgrades both with weapons, with the body, and in equipment, you can tailor the weapon to fit the needs of your unit/crew.
Hopefully, there will be more choices or items/upgrades to help alleviate your concern in the future.
Good question. Wish I knew more!

That all makes perfect sense and it is indeed what I do too. It's just that I know some gamers who play pretty literally and dislike 'counts as', and besides, more options are always good

What would you suggest, as ability/benefit wise, a hammer might do for a model in the game as compared to a sword, or any other "light" melee weapon?
How about a great axe compared to the "heavy" melee choce?
What ideas does your group have?
It would be relatively simple in later expansions to add additional weapon upgrades: Electro-Force: Push a model back 1" Electrostabalizer: +1 to CC
The issue is simply that the stat line is quite small and you don't have many options to tweak that way. You have to come up with in game affects besides changing the stat line of a model, at the same time, keeping balance.
What do you think?

Good questions. Can I put my money where my mouth is? ;D
How about a few Gear choice upgrades. It would be nice to have at least one upgrade for each weapon type to match the swords Mono Wire.
Gear choice upgrade for Heavy Melee-"Look at the size of that thing!" Gains Terrifying to represent the terrible, lethal nature of the weapon, covered in spikes, hooks and bits of previous victims.
Gear choice upgrade for Shock Gloves-"Bypass Supercharger"On a roll of 6 in Close Combat the electrical charge bypasses the opponents armour. Ignore Armour upgrades from gear choices for the Armour Save roll.
Gear choice for Pike-"Extendable Haft". The weapons shaft can retract to turn it into a smaller sword like weapon. By spending an action point the weapon can change from Pike to Sword or vice versa.
I think the only melee weapon niche that is missing is some kind of blunt option. Smashy hammer/baton type weapons. I think for those just using the sword rules (+1CC and Str) and add a unique gear upgrade such as...
"Electro Shock Capacitors".The weapon becomes Non Lethal and can be used to capture opponents alive.
As I've said before, I do love the rules as a whole. The Bounty book has me more excited than just about any rules set in the last few years. The last one to do that was AEWWII ;D

Thanks.
I shall try them out in my next couple of games. Pretty pleased with them actually as I thought of them as I typed ;D
I dont think any are over the top. Maybe the Pike gear choice steps on the toes of the sword a little, but it uses a gear choice which then cant be used for Mono Wire so the sword still slices and dices. Overall I think they should be pretty balanced and none seem overpowering.

One of the ideas you guys will see in the next year are ways to further customize weapons like guns or swords. Stay tuned

Let us writers talk to the boss and we'll see what can be done for a more meaty reveal of what's coming. But we're having a lot of fun, and I really hope you guys enjoy the final product when it is released.
