I am working on building a 1:48 Tamiya M20 and need to figure out a detachment to work it into. I am figuring on a Recon Detachment being the best spot for it.
I am thinking something like:
Vet - Airborne Officer - Hero Vet - Regular - K9 Squad Regular - Airborne Infantry - Carbines, 1w/ Rifle Grenade Regular - Airborne Infantry - BAR, Garand, 1 w/ Rfl Grenades Green - 60mm Mortar
What I am not sure of is what to do with that open Vet slot, the Hero type, or my special order.
For the Vet, I have considered a Mechanic to put a Tesla gun on the M20 as that seems fun. But, I am not sure.
I don't have the Occult book yet, although I hope to have it soon. Is there anything in there that screams to be in this detachment?

Occult gives you some interesting options. A Vet OORD Agent (Or MoAA Operative) would have a couple interesting magic items to play with.
I'm always a fan of a second Command unit also. Especially since the Mortar will have to park... somewhere while the M20 tools around, so your forces will be somewhat broken up either way.
Speaking of spreading out your forces, a Sniper would give you more options to pen in the enemy. You could also give him the Marksman hero type, and watch your opponent mentally curse his name.
As for a Hero type, War Hero or Archaeologist are generally useful. Eccentric Millionaire gives you another Special Order, which is a good thing. Alternately, a Rocket Hero popping out of a vehicle means no backfield enemy is safe.
Special order, I don't play a lot of vehicles, but Keep Moving will help maximize the M20's usage. Out of Ammo is great for silencing one of the opponent's killer units on a crucial turn. I don't have the books in front of me to check, but if you can take Artillery Support, it can definitely flip a turn in your favor, and maybe even the game momentum.

Maybe you could use a Senior Officer to fill the vet slot (over the wire 1)

After reading through the OTW's quite a bit recently, I think some Combat Engineers could be a lot of fun. I could either make those, the K-9 squad, or the BAR unit Vets.
Also, the Tank Hunter hero type could give me some much needed Anit-Tank firepower.
