Will there ever be an alternate choice to the Mechanic for taking a Tesla device?
I really like the Mechanic and will usually take them in an Experimental Detachment where they are not needed to unlock. Suped-up Buffaloes are a thing of beauty.
The trouble is they are just rather pants if you don't have a Buffalo or Robots.
I wanted to bring some Rocket Troops in a Recon Detachment, but then I have a mechanic without a job to do. Or a Support Detachment with a Tesla Mortar. The Mechanic is a bit of a liability in combat with A:2 and RC:5+, and the DR is low enough to not be especially useful boosting a squad.
Could we get an alternate Mechanic ability in an OTW? Or perhaps an ARPA Field Agent? Something a little more general that isn't limited to needing a Buffalo of Robots to be useful.

What we might do is add a variety of 'lesser Tesla devices' to the mechanic which you'll be able to choose from in a fashion similar to the OORD agent's occult gear. That should be enough to up the usefulness of the mechanic.

That would be excellent and a very welcome addition.

Threadomancy!
Why not make the Mechanic your Hero, Making him a Rocket Hero - he not only gets a Rocket Pack - but a Tesla Pistol!
I do empathize, if you take an Experimental Detachment - he becomes a little redundant.

rocket hero wouldn't be that great... 5+ to hit still (6+ past 6") and her armor would be 1.
Perhaps an american version of the the section Q: feild operative (but instead of getting 1 Babbage unit or 1 vehicle upgrade you could take a 1 tesla unit) or a hybrid of the two would be pretty good.

Surely its not a Mechanic's Job to be a Combat/Shooting Monster - by giving him extra mobility, you increase his effectiveness as a Mechanic - giving him the ability to move around the Battlefield more easily, to a position where he's needed. Plus with the extra movement, getting closer to the enemy would be easier making the 5+ to hit more likely.

A very characterful hero option is the demolitions option, youd have someone who can fix and destroy
