Is the grenade launcher classified as a Mortar type weapon? This would require at least one model to have LOS to the intended target.

In AE-WWII it is a Mortar ("Grenaten werfer mortar" means grenade launcher mortar) No LOS requirement makes it virtually impossible to hide from a grenade launcher so I think it should be classified as a mortar.

Though I think it's meant otherwise from the text of the rulebook, I think for game balance it would be best that it counted as a mortar (as with all indirect weaponry). As it is the grenade launcher is one of the better heavy weapons (with RoF1:1, no reload and AoE). Duncan

yes it is somewhat overpowered. A heavy armor+grenade launcher model is hard to take out. By targeting the ground right next to a model you can also ignore clouded mind effects and cloaking devices. Scatter values are too small and/or hitting is to easy. RoF 1:2 would help alot too.
