So as a Pirate with one Quartermaster I have often 2 crewmen.
One will almost always be the suppression supremes: Phact with 2 LRF. The other can be almost anything but most often I will slap on an ATW since they have RC 5+ anyways and will most likely be sprinting around doing some scenario related stuff.
So then ATW hit on 5+ "that cannot be modified in any way." I guess this rule is so you cant make them better, but do it also go the other way? So do that mean they ignore long range, cloaking fields, clouded minds, small stature and night?
That means a Rifle with Articulated Weapon Harness, Scope, Night Vision + ignore fields - so a Rifle Choice and 3+ gear choice in one gear choice.
Maybe the wording should have been: "that cannot be improved in any way"?
EDIT: Also I assume that it can still fire while the model/unit is suppressed.

I play it as "that cannot be improved in any way". Oh, didn't think about the suppressed part. This makes the ATW even better! It can be used while berserk, while in CC and while suppressed. This must be the best weapon for a Green.

So does anybody else have something to say on this matter?

So does anybody else have something to say on this matter? We do...but sometimes things take time to discuss.

1. The ATW- can it be modified in any fashion? No
2. Can the ATW shoot while a model is suppressed? Yes

Check out page 45 where it talks about Gear Restrictions. The big one that you need to keep in mind is " A weapon can only have one modification."

That is my point, the ATW is like 3+ modifications in one.
What I mean is that the rule say it will always hit on 5+, while you are moving even when suppressed. Now let say you want to hit a model with 'Small Stature' in a 'Cloaking Field' on 'Long Range' at 'Night' that means you need to have RC of 1 to get as good a result as a ATW. Of course this is an extreme case, but still ...
So my point was that maybe you meant that it cannot be improved in anyway, but it still apply penalties.

I agree with Iorka, it is too much for a single gear, almost every weapons will be equiped with it. My houserule would be to simply forbid it. Anyway I had some problem to imagine a weapon firing by itself making his owner just a puppet moving it on the battlefield and waiting for his weapons to do the dirty work for him...

It can also be used while you have picked up loot counters. and do I read it right that you do not get minus for night, range etc.

It can only be used once per Activation so it's not a game winner by any means. So no matter how many AP you have it only fires once.
Nowhere in the description does it state that it Always hits on a +5. the paragraph reads that it is fired with an RC of +5 ghat can not be modified in any way. Meaning you can't add other gear or mods to it to make it better.

I believe Rob is trying to say that you can't add a gear choice or modify the weapon itself in any way.
You still have to take range, cover, etc, into consideration when finding your target RC #.
Hope that helps.

Ahh I see I misunderstood it to mean it hit on 5+ when it in fact said it have RC 5, this make more sense - thanks for the replies.

If you have a problem imagining a gun on your guys shoulder firing on its own do a google search for the US Navy CIWS then imagine scaling it down to something that has one barrel and fits on your shoulder. It actually makes alot of sense, its just a little beyond what our current technology can do. For now...
