I am sort of confused as to when did this alternate history diverge from the true history of WWII.

All over the place really, you'd have to pay closer attention to the fluff text of all the books. Text written in itallics IIRC are fictitious(sp?) events written by the Darkson crew.

Right. In the main book, there is an outline at the beginning that details the differences next to historical information in a timeline of sorts.
Liberal use of "alternate" events are used and intermingled with historical events. Specifially, Pg 30 of the main rulebook shows "alternate" events with the first date as 1908.

when i presented this question, i wanted to know at what point in this games time line did the history of WWII first become altered. so far from what little the internet has offered me, the point of divergence seems to be the D-day invasion failing when it should have been successful.

Well, that'd be like me trying to list a TON of things.
That's why I mentioned the first weird element in 1908. I just can't list all the different events.

Tunguska is perhaps the focal point for the whole game, and most of the events described in the fluff texts can draw a line back to that event in one way or another.

Especially the Occult expansion delves into the mythos of the game, hinting at many a thing but revealing little. It has great depth and flavour to inspire your imagination, and the way it has been written just makes me crave more secrets revealed. I think of it, as like a puzzle where the pieces are all face down and you're only able to reveal a small part of the picture every time you turn a piece around, trying to fit it into the frame. The bigger picture still beyond grasping and all you can see is an eye here and a mouth there but not the creature itself.

Do you have the rulebook, coolclaytony? There is also a good outline of background material on the Darkson Designs website.

But now the point of divergance isnt important me anymore, whats more important is how is the Darkson crew gonna explain how the history got all messed up in the first place? Did a supernatural event bend space and time, did a time traveler accidently cause a chain reaction of events, did god just get bored with history and decide to change it?

It's all in the rulebooks, wait and see. Mostly though it comes down to the alternate events in between the historically correct ones. They play a major part in changing history as we know it, and turn it into the Alternative Events narrative the game is set in. But there is no single event that changes every thing, smaller events that all lead up to the major ones in history changes the outcomes (or in some cases explain to us why the historical event went down the way they did).

And really, even with the timeline as it is, there are differences between their world and ours, what with the trolls, agic, genies, etc.
