During the final months of World War 2, the German military came up with another ¡®wonder weapon¡± in an attempt to change the tide of battle. This was the ZG 1229 Vampir infrared site for the STG 44 assault rifle. This thing was heavy, about 5 lbs. and was connected to a 30 lbs. battery support pack designed to be carried on the soldiers back This is obviously quite useful and cool for AE;WW2 and something to make the Germans even more feared, heres a nice piccie of one;

Great picture. The Vampir night scope was a weapon truly ahead of its time, often combined with the Sturmgewehr, from what I've seen. Another instance of too little too late, but it would certainly be a great addition to any German 'nachtjaeger' added to the range to counter the existing Soviet snipers.

From what I've heard it was only suppossed to be used with the Sturmgewehr. Certainly a great weapon, imagine one on a tank!

Actually I have seen the night vison equipment fitted to a Panzer, but only in a model kit. Not sure if that was artistic license on part of the model company or something that was actually tried.

Well it's certainly an idea for our tanks.

I believe that this was actually attempted on Panther tanks, I'm not sure if it was ever used in this capacity in a combat environment, however.

Hmm, well its certainly something the Germans would be using on their vehicles in AE.
