Greetings folks. Well, spurred on by xeoran, I've decided to create a weapon for the SOE 'X-Ray Company' (more of this in the Troops section) and the paratroopers. I've taken the standard M1 carbine, replaced the stock and such, as well as adding an experimental weapon, the XM141 grenade launcher.
In other words, my evolution of the M1 carbine of old, based upon the desire to replace wood, which can get saturated and warp, as well as get heavier, with stamped metal and such. The stock's still wooden for that 'WW2' feel, but I will probably replace this with a folding stock similar to the M1 paratrooper carbine, as a way of keeping the weight down.
Follow the link below for a rough diagram of what such a weapon would look like:

N.B. Notice, I said rough.
As a natural evolution, the weapon could be selective fire (as the later M2 was), firing a 30-round magazine (if such a thing is needed for rules work), and can be fitted with a telescopic sight.
The idea behind the weapon is to create a lightweight weapon that is the equal of the StG44. The emphasis on stamped metal parts is to keep costs and weight down.
So, what d'you think? Could you see this within the setting?
Tim
N.B. This is primarily just a simple wee concept of mine that I've had floating around for a while for my own AE setting. I don't intend for folk to accept this thing at face value, but as a starting point for discussion relating to the less-exotic weapons that could have evolved, had WW2 continued.
