There have been a number of questions asked about Darkson Designs and the status of miniatures and other releases. Here are some answers that were posted on the facebook page. Feel free to ask us any additional questions you may have.
All the best,
The Darkson Designs Crew
Q: What happened to the hoodoo conjurer, oord agent, etc.?
A: in some of those cases the sculptors who had been contracted to do the work had other priorities come up and those sculpts were not completed. In others, sculpts were completed, but not to the level of quality expected. And in a few, our casting service (Cipher Studios) posted the figures for distribution before we had the casts in hand.
Q: About the webstore, why are so few models available?
A: These are the models that have currently been initiated with Valiant. We no longer have a relationship with cipher, so we need to pay start-up fees for all of the old casts again, and any new ones. This is a blessing in some cases, because it allpws us to remaster some figs in resin or do resculpts of figures that we would like to see represented another way.
Q: Why don't you have a relationship with cipher anymore?
A: Cipher decided that they could not offer us the support we needed because of their commitment to making Hell Dorado successful in the US. As such, they stopped supporting darkson with castings and distribution in August of 2010. Although the level of support given to darkson figures prior to that was tapering off in the run up to produce a large number of figures for helldorado. We decided to go with Valiant because of cipher's decision.
Q: Will this affect prior planned releases and distribution?
A: Yes. We need to pay for new moulds for old figures in some cases, and that takes away funds for new sculpts and art. We are still committed to producing high quality figures and art and stories, but the schedules to produce them have shifted.
Q: Can you give us any estimates about when you'll be back on track with the releases of figures and books and such?
A: Not at this time. There are personal matters several of the crew have to attend to first, then the issues with darkson can move into the focus again for the entire crew. We appreciate your patience and continued support.
Q: What can we do to support darkson?
A: Hire veterans! Support your local teachers! Tell the japanese to stop being stupid with their nuclear plants! Buy black library books by clint werner! If those things are done, the majority of the personal crises that have been affecting the crew will evaporate.ý..and buy the minis we do sell now! They're on sale 25% off, check out the webstore.
Lastly, and this is the only comment you'll see about this...
Q: Was the break up with cipher amiable?
A: Neither company is satisfied with how our business relationship ended. We wish cipher well, and we hope that hell dorado and anima tactics sell because that bodes well for the gaming industry in general. We wish we didn't have to start over now, but this will turn into a good thing I think. We will be in more control of our supply chain and distribution and have better support from a high quality caster. We did not seek this separation, but, we will come through it better off in the long run.
All the best,
