Finally, I've completed my IJA Detachment. These are from the Bolt Action Miniatures set by Warlord Games as well as the Darkson Designs Hive Soldiers and Bulletman. The Kempei-Tai figure is from the Bolt Action set, I painted the armband on him to indicate he's Kempei-Tai. Unfortunately I couldn't find any photos that showed the entire armband so I and drew the characters on the front based on what I could see. The Bakuhatsujin (Exploding Man) was painted using pale flesh colors then added some Gryphon Sepia and a little bit of Thracka Green Glaze around the wound areas to give him a sickly look. The open wounds were done with thinned Red Ink with a little bit of Black Ink. The clouds were drybrushed white over the flesh and then added lots more of the glazes to give it a cloudy effect. The Subakojin (Hive Men) were painted up along with the rest of the infantry. Then I painted around the swarm some of the Red/Black ink mix to show open wounds. The swarm was painted black with lots of various colors, including some metallics for the various bugs and lots of white dots to represent maggots. The BA boxed set comes with 3 different standards (IJA, IJN, and the Japanese Flag) as well as some devotional flags to hang off the rifles. The flags were cut out and I used ample clear scrap booking glue betweent them. While it was still wet, I then bent and twisted the flags. I bought another box to make an IJN detachment now.

Hmmm...must be some sort of hosting issue with Picasa. I know I've set the gallery to Public. Anyways, for those of you who have not seen them on my Facebook gallery, here's a link to my new blog that I'm starting up. Addicted to Pewter

Well I'm now almost done with my US Marines to counter my IJA.
Also I dug up some Ninjas and am looking at ordering some Type 100 SMGs from The Assault Group to make some Field Ninjas. I'm also thinking of snagging some TAG IJA with Flame Throwers and Type 100s.
I think I have a model that can pass as a Shinto Priest buried away somewhere in my Clan Wars collection too.

Gruesomely lovely, painted in a restrained way - rather than guts and gobbets, the hive soldier actually looks like a human being might in that state, the bakuhatsujin ditto, while it all looks very realistic. A very nice job - what paints did you use, if you don't mind? Particularly the IJA infantry, as you describe the weird elements.
I am starting on the IJA, so would you mind telling me how BAM and TAG scale up with Darkson's special soldiers? They look fine, but, sorry, not meant as an insult, your images are quite small. Ought I wait until Darkson make their own IJA?

Thanks! Actually the Kempei Tai Officer is a BAM and the Bakuhatsujin and Subakojin are Darkson Designs models. The Subakojin is proportioned like most most other DD models so you can see how well they mix. I believe the plan is for DD to focus on the upcoming weird units and leave the conventional historical models to other manufacturers. So you're pretty safe if you pick up the Bolt Action IJA boxed set, it pretty much has all the models you need to build a conventional IJA detachment per the OTW list. The two weird models available should add enough weirdness. In playtesting we had the most fun with the Hive Soldiers. I don't think think the stats for the Bakuhatsujin has been officially released yet. I've been doing some prodding to at least put him in the next OTW. Larger photos of the models, and the paints I used can be found on my blog here. Addicted to Pewter - Weird War 2-Pacific TheaterBTW, I'm currently adding to this force with some TAG and Old Glory models I've recently acquired.

My IJN detachment is 1/2 way done and on my workbench. Pretty much the same as the IJA, with some different colors in the uniforms.
I've got some Old Glory Jungle Fighters and Snipers which I'm going to use for my IJA Jungle Fighters and Takesago Raiders and Snipers. Not as nice as the new Bolt Action ones, but they have plenty of camo on them and I ordered them before Warlord Games released theirs.
I also got some The Assault Group stuff, officers, and some figures armed with Type 100 SMGs and Flame throwers. The excess flame thrower models I plan to use for some of the weird models for both the IJA and IJN detachments I'm building. I also ordered some extra Type 100 SMGs to customize a ninja figure to make a Field Ninja. Because it took about 2 months to get my stuff, TAG through in a Special Edition figure of a charging officer brandishing his katana and has a banzai bandana on.

I finished up a bunch of my IJN and a bunch more Pacific Theater stuff. If you want to see more of it, check it out over here at my blog, Addicted to Pewter. Also some Giretsu Airborne Commandos and Jungle Fighters. I've also been doing some conversion work on some of the playtest material for the Pacific Theater expansion that Matt Hope has given me the OK to post online. These are some ninja saboteur conversions, one is Japanese the other is American Nesei. More items from the mysterious Black Dragon Society are Ghost, Oni Demons and Kappa. And the OORD have conjured up something for the American forces fighting there. The Ghost of Bataan.
