www.modelizm.com/images/tachanka.JPGTchanka! Well, I thought I'd post up a pic of this little piece of Eastern European pragmatism. The Tchanka was, essentially, a civilian horse-driven cart with a Maxim heavy machinegun strapped to the back of it. They were used in large numbers during the Russian Civil War and WWI but were also quite popular during the Great Patriotic War (WWII to you capitalist pig-dogs ) Just thought I'd post up a piccie for inspiration. Something like this might be fun to use in the game.

How very cool, though I can imagine it must have been quite hard to keep the horses alive, drive through a battlefield and shoot at the same time, how many people operated this thing?

If I remember correctly they had a crew of three, one to drive the cart, one to operate the gun and another to reload etc. Tchankas were quite popular amongst Cossack forces because it could provide them with mobile fire support without resorting to expensive armoured vehicles (which ofton got bogged down in the conditions Cossacks were used in. Cossacks were often used as an alternative to heavy vehicles).

I can see how it would be easier to move around on muddy battlefields or in rough terrain, and it would certainly be simpler to make than a tank, the village carpenter could probably get a wagon like this together in no time. In our pulp setting I think it would fit nicely with the Russian forces.

Perfect! Thats brilliant, slap some armour on and pulp up the horses and you are made. Give it a bonus in going over certain types of terrain as well.
