Watching a video of the Goliath variant, being on the receiving end of some bomb-bots while playing Rezolution a few weeks ago, and reading an article about armed robots being deployed to Iraq got me thinking.
The Goliath alone would make a great AE weapon for the Germans. How about some other remote control robots, like the Goliath, that perform other tasks.
A Goliath Squad would consist of a controller and 1-2 other squad members (carrying Goliaths and equipment), of Regular-Veteran level Training. The squad would be equipped with 1-2 Goliaths. However, as they are not autonomous, they activate using the controller's AP. Thus the controller can do nothing but control one machine per AP. The Goliath must remain within LoS of the controller at all times. Due to their low height, they'd have the same effect as Clouded Minds, +2 Cover Bonus to Armor at all times, because they make such a low target. Due to the weight of the Goliaths, the squad would be stuck with a Cumbersome trait until all Goliaths are deployed. Deploying a Goliath would require 1 AP from one of the other squad members.
Goliaths would only have 1 Wound, and not very high armor. They are hard to hit but easy to disable/destroy. They move fast however, probably a 4-5" Move, and have Sure Footed. Thus allowing them to scoot ahead of the squad using a few AP.
Standard Goliath would be similar in terms of a Soviet Anti-Tank Dog, causing 6+2d6 damage in a 1-1/2" AoE, but requires the controller to use an AP to detonate.
A few variants that I can think of would be:
One equipped with either an MP40 or a heavier version with an MG42. Give them an RC of 6+, like the American Robot Trooper, and they'd be great for suppressive fire. Rather than being able to move and shoot like a Robot Trooper, they'd use their high mobility and good cover to scoot about to an ideal position and lay down covering fire.
One equipped with a smoke screen. It could move about the area placing smoke screen templates along the way, obscurring LoS. A more insidious variant could be one equipped with a poison gas that not only obscures but damages models in the template.
One equipped with a radio beacon that allows air dropped bombs to accurately hit their targets. Off map artillery support would automatically hit the location of the Goliath without deviation. Destroying the Goliath but providing more accurate fire support.
