Just a thought- Poland had a revolt in Warsaw (which was allowed to be crushed by the Russians) and the huge Warsaw ghetto. Now i was wondering about peoples thoughhts on this- guerilla war, an independant, allied nation supported from the sea or what? It is a great setting.
Yugoslavia has Titos Communist partisans (who received little support from the Russians and lots from SOE....). They broke with Stalins communism after WW2 and suceeded. So what do you think as another backround- more than that the Yugoslavian partisans were so numerous they were like an army of light infantry. Might they make a 'proper' army? Discuss etc..
Greece and Crete both had resistances supported by SOE and the Commandos. Their rocky, mountainous terrain and seascape is perfect for gurillas...but they are vital Mediterranean bases- might there be a fight over them- similarly Gibralter and Malta. A sea/amphibious war would be a cool idea...
There you go, thoughts about these locations and ideas for other 'smaller' theatres of war please.

Perhaps these units could be partisans which could be used as options for allied forces (when the Hero has a trait of being "accepted by the locals") I would keep these sort of units as support for the main armies at first though. Later on in the pipeline when things are more running (with this game) we could consider working on the Yugoslav army as a full armylist, could be quite interesting though.

Yeah, I just thought listing countries gives ideas...here are a couple more.....
The Phillipenes actually had a local insurgency against the US who had a prescence on the island, guerilla warfare that only stopped in 1941, perhaps the Japanese might support this and cause trouble for US.
Hawaii had lots of Japanese residents (as did the US), might these conduct a guerilola war to avoid being interned by US authorities?

The started a practically genocidal campaign in the Phillipines. Japanese people in the US and Hawai were locked up in concentrationcamps. We could have that rebellion start with Japanese escaping the concentrationcamps. For some reason this feels like the future war of the Terminator saga..interesting ;D

Yeah, a Japanese insurgency would be cool...

I think it would be very hard to make any significant resistance in the countries occupied by the Germans, as the Gestapo would strike down hard upon any signs of rebellion before it had a chance to begin. Also, if we keep most of Europe under German rule, with no D-day, it would be difficult for the allies to bring weapons to the resistance groups.

We could have some resistance movements, but I wouldnt make them too powerful. Yugoslavia for example wouldnt be liberated just yet, remember that the Germans are not clearly losing yet. The Allies are still stuck in North Africa and Normandy mostly. The Russians are trying to break the German offensive but also try to invade China.
The war is still in full motion with no clear sign of victory on either sides.

Actually Tord Resistance movements were very widespread in Occupied Europe. The Gespato couldnt get all of them and while many were captured many more survived. As for weapons thats the job of British SOE, they dropped hundreds of agents and thousands of weapons (Sten guns, Bren guns, grenades etc) and supplies like radios in airdrops, the Germans captured some but SOE was very successful. Theres also a true story about a British hospitol which was captured by the Germans in Holland, the CO of the hospital discovered he had over a hundred weapons in the basement after the capture and smuggled them out byputting them on stretchers so the Germans would think they were just British wounded who had died in the night! They then smuggled them to the Resistance... While resistance movements wouldnt be amazingly powerful they were very useful and often gave information, blew up railways, ambushed German convoys etc.

Of course, but it would be very difficult (if not practically impossible) to smuggle weapons weapons deep into German occupied territory. Holland wouldnt be that hard since its practically next to Britian, but countries in central and eastern Europe would be more problematic.

Holland, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium i know all got weapons. If you cant airdrop (which with British planes you can do over most of Europe) you make a landing from sea in a submarine. But no i dont think help was given to the Eastern Europeans, if i remember they just used hunting rifles and the like. I do believe the Russians occassionally sent out people with a few extra weapons to find partisans and regulate them.

Hmm I think we could include the Russian Snipers as support for the troops in the East, just look at the old thread Darkson made here for the Russian Snipers, they basicly function as the "eyes" for Moscow. I could imagine Stalin having snipers sent across eastern Europe to function as agents to gather intelligence on the local situation (of both the Axis forces and the resistance forces) while potentially also training the local populations to fight against the Germans.

Exactly...plus normal snipers might be a Paratroop sniper or a Reg Guard Sniper....the actual Sniper corps functioning like scouts. They wouldbe very cool and if we call them say Scout Snipers you can have Scout Rangers and all kinds of other interesting personnel!
