Crystal and I have just found out that some very good friends of ours, their family was directly impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This is what they wrote to us:
"I would like to thank all of you for your calls, prayers, concerns and support. The disaster in New Orleans and Mississippi has touched us all and affected so many of us. To see all of my childhood memories destroyed, family homes destroyed, my grandparents home under water, family businesses destroyed and a possible loss of family has truly been devastating. We cannot begin to truly describe the magnitude of the devastation and how it has affected our family, in-laws and extended family, personally. It has become very heart-wrenching and indescribable-my emotions are on a virtual roller coaster, especially since I was in New Orleans visiting family just one month prior to the date Katrina hit.
My grandmother even made the 14 hour journey to Atlanta from New Orleans on Tuesday morning, as the flood waters were rising, without a scratch. However, she was admitted into an Atlanta hospital on Saturday morning. Please keep her in your prayers.
Well, I am truly grateful to God for removing a great deal of family from this situation and bringing them to safe ground. We are just as thankful to family and friends that have opened up their homes to assist our family, and giving them shelter.
Family in Atlanta and Louisiana open their hearts and homes: One home is housing 25; another home is housing 15; another has 9 and a cousin in Louisiana is housing 22. We anticipate more arriving at all locations within the next few days."
We are putting together large care packages of basic necessities and toys for the kids.
If you would like to help and know that it will be going directly to a family in need you can make a monetary donation to: www.darksondesigns.com/relieffund.html
or send any toys, basic necessities or gift cards for clothing to:
