You guys must have probably heard of the Tesla coil, or Tesla weapons in Red Alert. Tesla was a Serb scientist who went to the US to try to get a better life, he left in the late 19th century, he invented several things concerning electronics and magnetism, later on however he said he could create weapons that would split the world in two or tear apart a thousand battleships.
Now I dont really want to put superweapons such as these in the game, the interesting thing are the electronic or lightening weapons, some lightening cannon mounted on a platform or tank? What about smaller scale lightening weapons which would be held like large machinegun sized weapons?

In red alert 2 some of the russian heavy infantry type guys (with the big bulky armor) had portable versions of it. I think something like that would be pretty cool for this game. EDIT: I found a pic:

Very cool indeed, only Red Alert kind of ignored that Tesla moved to the US before there even was a 'communist' state Give the lightening technology to the Americans, maybe later on in the war Soviet operatives stole the technology and now the USSR also has Tesla weapons.

Just to resurrect this one. Did you know that Tesla first thought up the concepts of a charged particle beam weapon in 1937, but was unable to act on his plans (for whatever reason).
Could be interesting to see some sort of scenario where German saboteurs have to infiltrate a US facility to steal his plans and destroy a US prototype weapon.
Tim
P.S. Red Alert has always taken great liberties with history, so the mere fact that Tesla sides with the Soviets is never a great surprise. After all, the Allies had Einstein and the Chronosphere (as well as the Prism Tank in RA2). ;D

It's not that Red Alert took liberties, it's that the whole scenario involves the bad guys going back in time to give the then bad guys superweapons so they crush the Allies.

Whatever gets said Red Alert was very cool. I've always hoped if Darkson does well with AE;WW2 we might get AE; Cold War kinda based off RA.

Or maybe just grow it from the WWII setting? Advances on technology featured in AE-WWII would be a neat way to go, I think.

Maybe but the trouble with that is that Germany has to be defeated (or one of the Allies- US/UK or Russia). That means we have to say how they were defeated and while more "historical" destroys AE;WW2 in that it stops it being in the perfect state of a game (namely where everyone is equal nd you are only halfway through the war). That said it is an idea- you could make it a pulp cold war in an alternative history to the AE;WW2 world as AE;WW2 is to ours.

Keep thinking of weapons designed by Tesla. The Tech Americans will have a heavy influence from Tesla. ;D Think portable weapons with power packs strapped to the back, smaller rifles, and even pistole's. ;D

I think that summer/winter/whatever campaigns should be set up to help determine the fate of AE:WW2. Then, you can move on from there.
