OK, if tanks ever are in the future of AE-WWII's model range, I really think these monsters would make awesome choices for 'pulp' tanks (and be sure to draw the attention of historical model builders as well). As if the Panzer VIII 'Maus' wasn't enough of a ridiculously huge behemoth, check out what could have been the PzKpfw IX and PzKpfw X - the 'Ratte' and the 'P-1500': www.achtungpanzer.com/p1000.htm

Urrk! I do so hope AE does feature tanks, and in particular tanks like those. Great find.

Anybody get a sick feeling when they consider what a 280mm naval gun would do to a Sherman? I mean, the Germans were already calling the things 'Tommy Cookers' just from what a Tiger's 88 could do!

I think it would spread the Sherman over a couple of fields. Actually it would just be overkill against anyhting less than, well some kind of super heavy tank.

Ever seen that game, command and conquer: generals? It featured a tank, the overlord, which I think would make a good target for a such cannon.

Yup. The overlord would make a great opponent.

Well, I pulled out my Maus and its only 10 meters to scale. The ratte is 35. So, I need a lot of extra plastic and tracks from a 48 scale german tank to make this big *skree* thing. Its going to one big 1/72 vehicle.

Yes. Asking is polite.

The gun needed for the Ratte is the leopold. I'm using two 280 mm barrels for the kit. I'm also looking into getting two MAN V12Z32/44 Diesel 1/72 U-boat engines for the main drives. I think they sell kits for interiors of U-boat displays.

Meant no harm, I am just eager to see the project, sounds like will be one hell of a model! You could have a whole scenario centered around that thing, Germans defending it, and allied commandos and/or resistance forces trying to disable/destroy it.

Way ahead on the scenario/story idea. Nasty as a Ratte is, imagine one fitted with some abominable high-tech weapon system like the theoretical KSK. Now give it all the obscene horrors the geneticist faction can supply for support. After all, getting there should be half the fun.
I am also really looking forward to the conversion. With the dimensions of the Ratte, at least a close apporximation of size is feasible, though it might involve quite alot of casting for 'straight' track sections and probably fabrication of the hull itself from something like plasticard. 1/72 tanks are the best idea for cannibalizing details like hatches, engine cowlings, etc.

I ordered 1/72 u-boat interior engine and will post pictures if the cardboard model which will be used to create the plastic templates. Also, I picked up a 1/72 Leopold for one of the guns at the model show last week. This thing is going to be huge.
