I'm also planning on bringing my Germans, Russians and Americans. That way if people need minis or would like to play after a demo, but don't have minis assembled yet, they can borrow mine.
And I can then play which ever side needs me the most.

The ROA options will make it a little easier to even the sides out though. A Ruskie player just needs to nominate themselves rogue and that's that.

although the SS and SD hate each other story wise is there anything in the rules that actually prohibits that? So is it possible to take an SS/SD detachment and mix them for some battles?

So is it possible to take an SS/SD detachment and mix them for some battles? No, you can't mix and match SD and SS, nor SS and ROA - the SS really don't like anyone. SD and ROA go quite well together though.

Ahh okay just wanted to make sure so i can't run an SD/SS and run them as two different armies. Not sure which side i will lean more on trying frantically to finish painting/converting the army and seeing what i can make as passable when i get there lol.

Here are my pics from the convention; I'm sorry they're aren't more, but I was swamped with events. The booth A photo from the Black Gold campaign; the Axis drove off the Allies in a minor victory. The Saturday tournament was a blast! Here are the four tables used for the tourney. Here's a pic from Round 2 where Scott and Chuck go at it. Maurice and Andrew go head-to-head. The SS vs. the Red Army. Andrew had some great SS conversions and his Hell-host showed Maurice that the Soviets have something to fear!

lol So THATS what i look like when i'm contemplating.. It was a close knit affair and was decided on the last turn the hellhost and the war hero exchanged blows for TWO complete turns till finally I managed put down the hero and continue to contest the objective.

Maurice was coming up to me the rest of the weekend saying 'that Hell-host is MEAN'! You gave him a run for his money.

hopefully i can get some pictures up this week, i have to add details and actually finish painting them.
the SS are quite nasty, "second sight" on the Hellhost meant that against most shots i would re-roll my armor but against higher stuff i would re-roll the impervious (5+).
At first i was confused because i picked the "blur" ability on the Krieghexe without reading all of it, i believed it was for any unit not just himself. Dont worry i didn't use it on any unit but him.. but then i over heard someone say that my own units blocks enemy line of sight. So i ran my Krieghexe in front of anything important since long range shots would auto fail and if they were in short range needing 6's doesn't help.
Vril Engineer's ability to make a gun better is risky, I just kept giving out the rune of Tyr(?) the one that gives a bonus to hit and damage/strength of weapon i believe. Imagine an Engineer sitting by an MG team? Coupled with the SS Sniper i was doing great amounts of damage and he wasn't even a hero!
For some reason everyone was scared to death of the Scultzkommando (sp), its a good thing i gave him an artifact that gave him an extra wound. It is risky but often times he only lived 1-2 turns after his first initial two wounds and his job was to remove drive penalties. His abilities to essentially "kit him out" i found very good and he is full of options. I will have to convert my very own Kommando when i get the resources.
He carried all sorts of Melee weapons, from his enchanted blade to a blade that gave him the lethal ability (can you say MP40 in short range?). He has A LOT of options, it all depends on your play style of course.
I'm glad that my list did as well as it did for its first time out, i had other minis i could of used as a vampire or werewolf. But i like the choices i made and i can't wait to convert the rest of my army to the SS.

I haven't been able to make the Krieghexe 'work' yet, but that's a clever tactic. Agreed. One of the the things I like best about the Occult book heroes is that you can really personalize them. Lots of ideas floating around now.

Yes the Kommando is quite nice as for as customizing goes, A "lethal" MP 40 is great for mowing down just about anything. It does make his default "enchanted dagger" some what overlooked, though the bonus to CC does help at times.
I'm kicking myself because didn't even look at all the other units in the book I just studied all the units that I was using lol. I must say that the lure of the supernatural has me and my SD will be quite alone in the coming months. I'm going to be running SS or Straight lists for awhile.
