We have a convention in Pittsburgh called GASP Con in November. I was talking to the other players in Pittsburgh and was asking questions about doing demos. One thing brought up is that good terrain will generally have people stop by and at least take a look at the game.
So the question I asked them, and now everyone else is:
What do you think the terrain should look like?
examples being:
city scape similar to Stalingrad a wrecked weird war something as an objective city/country landscape surrounding a lab airport no man's land with trenches components of some of the above?
Let me know. i have time to start working, but need ideas.
Thanks everyone.
P.S. I have a fully painted German force and a fully painted Russian force to use. By then I hope to have a small painted American force to use to demo as well.

The hard work hasn't started yet. This is just the thinking and information phase. The "What the heck did I get myself into" phase comes later. ;D

I don't own and use a lot of terrain in my demo games, but something to keep in mind is that I feel AE-WWII plays better when it plays fast. Too much terrain could be a hindrance in getting new players into combat quickly, if they have to spend too many turns getting around obstacles and lining up shots.

Phil is a Partisan and has been to a few cons as well as done a bunch of demos. This is going to sound strange but go into a GW store some time and see how the guys give demos. If it's done right it's an art.

Well the terrain is still very vague, Friday night will be the first BS/planning session. The goal is to get an eye catching table to drag the uninitiated over to play at the local gaming con. And to put it into perspective, last year the focal point of the minis was a massive Battle of Hoth game for Star Wars minis, with a good table and the appropriate 4 AT-ATs and all the equipment and minor vehicles. Did I mention that there was an Echo Base board that connected to the Hoth board, and were setup to interact with each other?
Partisanship will probably get mixed in, once we start figuring out size and ideas for the demos.
Sorry Rob, but going to a GW store is a weekend trip - the nearest is 3/4 hours away in Buffalo.

Here's an idea:
Remember those giant german guns mounted on train cars? Imagine the AE-WWII version of it. More sinister, bigger, and firing horrific weapons of terror. The German SD, fed up with the dogged resistance of the Paris defenders, have resorted to leveling the city and trying their latest horrific weapons on the populous. These are being slowly brought into position to shell the encircled defenders in Paris, and the Allies must stage a daring raid to destroy them before they're in position and made ready to fire.
You get a giant gun on the table, perhaps look for a version of those cannons that are out of scale so they're larger than life, then alter the model so it fits.

mkcontra Go to www.gaspgamer.com for details - Im fairly active in the group (and some of its even productive hehe) so once you poke around a little let me know what info you need and I'll get you in touch with the right people turtle - sounds like we could just buy a 1/35 model kit of those and modify it - it will be larger than life already since 28 mm is around 1/48th to 1/50th

Will do. If you guys are ever interested in an AE-day, let me know. I'm tied down w/ a newborn and can't really travel, but I'd be happy to host.

All the other AE guys up here are married with children and I work 2 jobs, so that would take alot of planning. Besides no offense but if Im in DC I still have to stop and see the Smithsonian and any other major museums and go back and drool over the Air and Space Museum

We've lost some good gamers to marriage and children. If kids weren't so much fun it would seem like a hard trade for all the time lost. On the upside, my daughter now sits and paints with me when I do hobby stuff. And once the boy stops trying to eat everything I use to paint, I will get to do it much more often. My in-laws live around Baltimore, next time I'm there I will try to swing by and look you up. The train/big guns idea sounds awesome. It would give a good central piece to plan a board around with opportunities for cover but not too many obstacles. Hey Chuck, any thoughts on that?

I've been wanting to do a Trainyard type of terrain sets lately.
love the idea of a big train gun and allies trying to stop it from happening.
Reminds me of an old Hogan's Hero's episode haha.

I really like the big guns idea. And as an afterthought, if we wanted to show continued support by DD, then we could use the combat engineers from OTW 6 in the scenario.
